Of Dead Kings and Dirges: Myth and Meaning in Isaiah 14:4b-21by Cyrus Herzl Gordon
Making only minor revisions to his 1997 doctoral dissertation for the Princeton Theological Seminary, Shipp (Old Testament, Austin Graduate School of Theology, Texas) surveys several views of myth in the passage that have been put forward since the 1928 discovery of the Ugaritic mythology texts. He looks at approaches that deny mythical elements, those that find several mythical allusions or narratives, and the myth and ritual approach and some of its variations.
