When people are reduced to the barest minimum of existence, some are grateful for the little they have while others feel that flying in the face of danger means nothing to them. This story showcases the two extremes, people who cherish a peaceful existence, and two others who risk it all, including others' peaceful lives, for excitement and the glimpse of a possible better life. The cruelty and baseness of life on this plantation is offset by the kindness and decency of some who live there.
