Overview

Spread throughout the dark corners of our world lies the Shadow World, a society of vampires who feed off the living. In Austin, Texas, one woman must rise from the ashes of tragedy and confront an ancient evil before it destroys everything she holds dear…

After a heartrending night of loss and blood, Miranda Grey-Solomon, vampire Queen of the South, now stands in the ruins of her life determined to pick up the pieces and move on. David, her husband and Prime, is missing and presumed dead, and Miranda is lost without her soul mate by her side…But she has little time to grieve as enemies both old and new emerge to test her yet again.

Between vampires trying to take advantage of a Queen without a Prime, incursions by a mysterious organization of humans calling themselves the Order of the Morningstar, and the continuing threat from those within the Shadow World who have already tried to destroy her, Miranda and her allies are running out of places to turn. In order to save her territory and the ones she loves, Miranda must look to the ancient past, to the first days of the vampire race, and uncover secrets about the Signets that could change the course of history…

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
Praise for the novels of the Shadow World

“Looking for a new addiction? Go no further.”—Devon Monk, author of Magic for a Price

“Powerful...packed with startling action, sensual romance, and delightfully nerdy vampires.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“Grabbed me on the first page and didn’t let go. Miranda, the heroine, is vulnerable and gutsy, with magical abilities even she doesn’t suspect. Vampire David Solomon is as powerful and heroic as he is deliciously seductive. Dianne Sylvan has created an original take on vampires that I thoroughly enjoyed, and I’ll be looking for her next book with great anticipation. She’s a skilled and talented storyteller who definitively knows how to deliver one hell of a book!”—Angela Knight, New York Times bestselling author of Master of Darkness

“Dianne Sylvan is an incredibly talented writer. She draws the reader not only into the story but into the very marrow of someone who is starting to question [her] grip on reality. If you aren’t familiar with the Austin area, you will be once you turn that last page… Queen of Shadows concludes with a great flourish, leaving the reader euphoric.”—Sacramento Book Review

WOWSERS! This is an amazing book. This time last year I was howling, having just finished Shadow's Fall. The ending of that book ripped me up and I've been waiting impatiently for this book ever since. If you have not read the other books in the series, do not start with this one. The rest of them are essential to understanding this one. I started re-reading them last week, knowing this was coming and I was impressed by the foreshadowing as far back as book 2. Sylvan is hard on her characters, never taking the easy way out when she can put them thru the wringer. It pays off in this book after all the pain of the last one. I will miss some of the characters from Shadow's Fall, but I'm looking forward to seeing what book 5 (and beyond) will bring.
