Overview

I couldn't put it down, and neither will you.—John Lescoart, New York Times best-selling author of the Dismas Hardy Novels and The Hunt Club

Off the Street is detective Christopher Baughman’s true life story of fighting to protect a class of women who are too easily forgotten and readily dismissed. Now co-host of the MSNBC-TV series Slave Hunter, Chris and the Las Vegas Pandering Investigation Team (PIT) wage war against the pimps who kidnap, trick, and beat women into submission and into a life of prostitution.

What begins with an attempt to apprehend, arrest, and convict a pimp responsible for beating a woman with a baseball bat over a two-day period quickly spirals into something far more sinister. Chris shares the emotions of the victims, parents, and family members who are involved in this investigation and offers parents guidance on how to protect their daughters from these predators. Chris ventures back to his own youth, to a memory that served as the momentum for his passion for saving the people and the city he has sworn to protect.

Christopher Baughman heads up the Pandering Investigation Team (PIT) and Human Trafficking Task Force in Las Vegas, where his team has arrested and convicted several of the city’s wealthiest and most violent criminals. Their success caught the attention of investigative reporter Chris Hansen of NBC's Dateline Undercover: To Catch a Predator and has been the subject of several episodes, as well as a segment on NBC’s American Greed. Chris teaches the anatomy of pandering investigations to other departments across the nation, including members of the FBI, IRS, and federal parole and probation agencies.

    Thank you Chris!!

I like all the others could not put this book down! I am a resident of Las Vegas and Chris rescued a family that is very dear to me! We need to spread the word about this horrible crime. We think it can't hit home but boy was I wrong! This book helped me understand a world that we often igonre.

I had allowed stereotypes infulence what my thoughts were about pimps and prostitutes but the situation that has hit home along with this book have made me understand that I was wrong.

Please read this book and pass the word out to your loved ones! Keep hunting Det. Baughman!!!

    The Matrix - 2011

I also got my hands on one of the books early. How do I describe it? Remember the part in the Matrix when Neo took the pill. "Off the Street" is that pill. I thought I knew what Pimps were, I thought I had a firm grasp on what Human Trafficking meant. I'm ashamed to admit, I WAS WRONG. I'll warn anyone who thinks they want to read this book, once you have the world will never look the same again. Rocked my world. Just like every other reviewer I can't wait for book 2.

    OUTSTANDING

Capable writer who undoubtedly has the skills necessary for writing. Christopher addresses complex issues in the pimp/prostitute subculture. The book provides an insightful view from an outstanding writer, detective and person. I did not want to put this book down until I was finished with the entire book. I highly recommend it.

Highly Recommended - The first of its kind.

I had the wonderful fortune of reading an advanced copy. Mind-blowing. I've read many a book on many a subject matter. This guy is not only a brilliant Detective/Hunter, but a second to none story teller. It is scary to say this, but his writing style is highly addictive. He isn't a Detective that writes, he is a writer who hunts demons with a reckless abandon. I cannot wait for his next book!

A Must Read!!!! I couldn't put it down.

This is an amazingly written book! It pulls you in from the very beginning and doesn't let you go! Det. Christopher Baughman offers personal insight into a dark world that is over shadowed by the glitz of the Las Vegas lights. He makes you understand the difference between being a victim and having a choice. He sheds a neon light on the reality of prostitution, the victims themselves, the families it hurts, and that there is a way back from the darkness once it has claimed it's victim. By the end of the novel, you find yourself thanking for Det. Christopher and those like him- the watchers, the ones who have a personal interest towards the people in their cities and will stop at nothing to make sure they are safe and that evil knows that it doesn't stand a chance as long as they are around.
