An io9 Can't Miss Science Fiction and Fantasy title in March 2014.

Martin Banks is just a normal guy who has made an abnormal discovery: he can manipulate reality, thanks to reality being nothing more than a computer program. With every use of this ability, though, Martin finds his little “tweaks” have not escaped notice. Rather than face prosecution, he decides instead to travel back in time to the Middle Ages and pose as a wizard.

What could possibly go wrong?

An American hacker in King Arthur’s court, Martin must now train to become a full-fledged master of his powers, discover the truth behind the ancient wizard Merlin…and not, y’know, die or anything.

    A fun book

This book is a perfect blend of humor, geekiness, and science fiction/fantasy. The characters are fairly detailed for a smallish novel.

I especially like that the story doesn't treat the reader like an idiot and explain every detail, instead leaving nods to geeky culture throughout.

I can't create a "pen name", so anonymous I go. Anyway

I can't create a "pen name", so anonymous I go. Anyway, I commend Scott on a wonderful read. Frequent laugh-out-loud moments - I even found myself practically flailing around in delight at some of the zingers/surprises. His style actually reminded me a lot of Douglas Adams' work and I seriously think his sense of humour, clever ideas, and excellent delivery are every bit as good as what is in the H2G2 series. I'm recommending the book to others, eagerly awaiting the sequel, and constantly daydreaming of how the story would look in movie format... :o)

    Great story!

This is a very fun little story. It has an interesting premise and likeable characters. The only real complaint is that it seems that 2/3 of the book is the setup, and the conflict in the story is only in the last 1/3. It is still, however, a fun read. Highly recommended.

A fantasy cyberpunk comedy novel. I loved it! Hoping for a sequel. It's charming, easily accessible even if you're not familiar with either fantasy or cyberpunk/hackerstuff already, and has a good balance of elements that surprise without being out of left field random (like some writers I know like to use, just to show off). Keep up the good work!

I've enjoyed Mr. Meyer's "Basic Instructions" comic series for years, and found this book by accident on the website. I wasn't expecting much - writing a good comic strip is no guarantee of being able to write a novel, and (in general) first novels are not as good as the later ones.

This novel was very good! Far better than the Elizabeth Bear novel I was slogging through and eventually gave up on. If BoingBoing hasn't covered this already, they ought to. Go and buy it - it's four bucks, about as much of a latte but way more karmically fulfilling.

    Worth the read

While I wish it would have been a bit deeper, with a more well-developed plot, it's a very entertaining light read. More importantly, it's filled with that Basic Instructiony wit and dialog that so many of us have come to love. If you are a fan of the comic, or even if you are not, it is worth picking ip and reading.
