The politics of food and the love of a younger man complicate Shauna Anderson's already complicated life. Shauna fights to open her Chitlin Market, in a Maryland suburb of DC, against the wishes of shadowy political and religious leaders who declare Chitlins a 'negative racial stereotype". Shauna just knows that her million plus online customers love her hand cleaned Chitlins and the Smithsonian Institute installed her work in their Museum for African American History and Saveur magazine named her as "The Source". All she wants is a restaurant where she can greet and serve her loyal following. What's not to be proud of? While fighting off her enemies Shauna falls madly in love with her young handsome restaurant contractor. They quickly discover multiple personality disorders in one another, brought on for both by childhood traumas. Together, the two of them fight their inner demons, vandals, crooked inspectors, doubting friends, and shady neighbors.
Her story is told with great dignity and humor with a lot of wonderful southern food recipes mixed in.
