Overview

Guitarist Pat Metheny is unquestionably one of the most gifted and innovative artists in any musical genre, one who somehow manages to maintain a highly recognizable sound while creating a widely divergent series of recordings. Metheny is constantly searching for ways to combine compositional structure with improvisation, eagerly experimenting with new forms of technology to help the band expand its sonic palette. OFFRAMP was the first album on which Metheny used a guitar synthesizer, an instrument that subsequently became an important part of his sound. OFFRAMP is filled with intricately crafted, subtly shaded compositions, including the evocative track "Are You Going with Me?," the bright, catchy "James," and the bouncy "Eighteen," as well as more experimental numbers, such as the title track and "Barcarolle." It's this combination of inspired, astoundingly high-level musicianship and thoroughly accessible compositions that makes OFFRAMP a must-have for the music lover with a taste for adventure.
