Oggie Cooder’s charving has already taken him to the top of the world. (Charving, in case you don’t know, involves chewing and carving pieces of cheese.) But there’s one place Oggie Cooder has never been allowed to go:

Donnica Perfecto’s pool.

This year might be different. Donnica’s mother has made her invite Oggie to a pool party. And Oggie couldn’t be more excited. Not only will he finally make it into the pool, but there’s also going to be mini hot dogs and a juggling bear.

The only problem? Donnica Perfecto does not want Oggie Cooder at her party. And she will do anything to stop him from coming!

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 3–5— Sarah Weeks's Oggie Cooder (2008) wears crocheted shoelaces, used clothing, and has terrible handwriting. At lunch, he sits with another misfit, Amy, who removes the rubber bands from her braces to eat. But Oggie doesn't act like a loser. He's energetic, inquisitive, and persistent. When he's happy, he "prrrr-ips." And when he's nervous, he charves cheese (a cross between chewing and carving). Donnica Perfecto, his exact opposite, lives across the street. She's rich, whiny, and wants to go to Hollywood. When a talent show comes to town looking for a child with a unique talent, Donnica is determined to learn how Oggie charves. In Oggie Cooder Party Animal (2009, both Scholastic), Donnica is forced to invite Oggie to her birthday party, but she has a plan to prevent him from coming. Oggie is a loveable character, and William Durfris's narration is right on target. Fans of Jeff Kinney's Wimpy Kid titles will be drawn to Oggie. A solid addition to upper elementary humorous fiction collections.—Debbie Whitbeck, West Ottawa Public Schools, Holland, MI

Meet the Author

Born in Ann Arbor Michigan, Sarah Weeks tried to become a champion charver in order to write this story, but she found that she wasn’t quite as good at it as Oggie Cooder. Luckily she does not depend on her charving skills to make a living. Instead, she writes widely acclaimed books, including So B. It, the Guy series (Regular Guy; Guy Time; My Guy; and Guy Wire), and the Boyds Will Be Boyds series (Beware of Mad Dog; Get Well Soon, Or Else!; Danger! Boys Dancing; and Fink’s Funk). She lives in New York City, and can be found on the Web at www.sarahweeks.com.
