There is a pretty great variation between songs, so some songs will appeal to you while others will not. All in all, a good CD, especially if your'e a fan of the Shins or indie rock.

A good album all around, worth the low price it's listed at here. In general, a bit too mellow for my mood but I don't regret buying it. While I may not be a rabid fan of the Shins, I do enjoy their strange brand of indie pop/rock/etc/whatever.

This CD could not be better! The Shins are amazing, they can pull out every emotion you possess. You will smile at some of the jumpier songs like Know Your Onion! and will cry, or at least unleash your sadness to songs like Caring is Creepy or New Slang. You will not know to think on Your Algebra, it is odd, but it does not ruin the album, not even a blemish. This album possesses your emotions, so let them out: Get The Shins' Oh, Inverted World, now!

This is the Shins first album -- a very mellow, touching album. Singer/songwriter James Mercer spills his emotions into carefully worded abstract lyrics, in delicate melodies that display his amazing vocal range. These songs are extremely well written, intricate and beautiful. Songs like "Caring is Creepy" and "New Slang" actually make me cry when I'm in the right mood. Seriously.

Except for "Your Algebra," every song on this album is worth listening to!

Editorial Reviews
All Music Guide - Heather Phares
The Shins' first full-length is a definitive indie rock album of the 2000s not just because of its thoughtful, tuneful songs, but also because of the vivid portrait it painted of indie culture. After the high irony of Pavement and other '90s standard bearers, indie rock began moving into more emotionally forthright territory. Oh, Inverted World is the sound of realizing there's more to life than being a smart-aleck -- but also not being ready to open up completely. The album's first song, "'Caring Is Creepy,'" sums up the typical indie response to emotional situations with its title alone, but it also introduces James Mercer's delicate, dryly witty take on that attitude....
