Overview

OK Go's effervescent debut bounced and bubbled with sugary power pop, but their role as the band-of-choice for NPR's This American Life betrays their underlying smarts. On Oh No, their second album, OK Go sharpen both their guitars and their wit. Producer Tore Johansson works the same magic he found for Franz Ferdinand's debut, enabling the guitars on "Do What You Want" and "Invincible" to burst with bright, radio-friendly energy. OK Go are chameleons: the jittery "Here It Comes Again" revs up like the Cars; the falsetto "Oh Lately It's So Quiet" has the soulful swagger of Lenny Kravitz; the punk-funk "A Million Miles" harks back to the Clash circa "Rock the Casbah." But the diversity is all part of Oh No's fun, and the knowing allusions only add to the pleasure, never more so than on "A Good Idea at the Time," which is a sly political critique that appropriates the rhetoric of the Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil," right down to the whoo-whoos. Whether skewering consumer culture on the speedy "Television, Television" or hipster pretensions on the glammy "Crash the Party," Oh No affirms OK Go's gift for marrying snappy wit to sing-along choruses and memorable hooks.

All Music Guide - Johnny Loftus
The anxious and modern children of indie rock and new wave, OK Go will always have something you can love. In 2002, it was a squelchy, three-minute summation of what made the Pixies great called "Get Over It." Three years later, it's a savvy batch of songs that are as perfectly arranged as those natty suits the quartet wears in Oh No's photos; perhaps a little calculated, but too prickly with excitement to really ignore. As tense and bursting as it is hooky and efficient, "Do What You Want" sounds a lot like the Hives. But it could also be a sly and modern Escape Club. This continues with "Here It Goes Again" and "Good Idea at the Time," songs that cut too jaggedly to be opportunistic revivalism but still whir with new wave's wiggy energy. Fans of OK Go's first album will love "No Sign of Life" and the weirder "Oh Lately It's So Quiet," while "Crash the Party"'s 1000-watt tingle is more the speed of Oh No. OK Go has written an album that coats its incredibly accessible nuts and bolts with an effervescent rocket sauce. It's got that unique zing, the one that says "modern rock sensation!" on the label.

I love this album so much. It has the same awesome sound Ok Go has always had, but somehow it's so so so much better! The songs are so forceful, and I can't help but dance whenever I hear their sweet tunes.

if you thought you liked OK Go before, you're gonna piddle your pants over them now. There new CD is fantabulous, fatastic, amazing, brilliant, etc. The songs range from fast paced, to haunting, to just plain old fun. The lyrics are smart and the CD is hot. -TheGreyLady

What does it take to become my new favorite band? Start with a sophomore release that blows your impressive first album out of the water, complete with Beach Boys harmonies, Cars synthesizer squelches and Queen-inspired fanfare all over-top hard hitting crunchy guitars and power-pop-rock. Then build a website that not inspires people to become fans, but rewards them too. This is exactly what OK Go has done, and that is why they are my new favorite band. Oh No is from start to finish a fun and rocking CD. The hooks are infectious, but the songwriting is far to grand to be bubble-gum. OK Go’s vocal work is right-on and memorable. Production is major-label professional without being overly slick. In short, this album rocks. Producer Tore Johansson (Franz Ferdinand) told OK Go on the first day of work on Oh No, “You will go into a room and you will rock.” That is exactly what they did.

If you want to dance, you want to buy Oh No. It's amazing. OK Go has just made the catchiest music I've ever heard. And I love every single second of it. And I cannot tire of it. It owns.

Oh no is a wonderful album, I enjoy it a lot. There's nothing better than rolling the windows down and blasting the music as loud as you can. You'll always be happy while listening to Ok Go.

Having been an OK Go fan for almost four years, I was estatic to find that another CD dropped this past month. It's become a part of me, and I cannot stress how wonderful it really is. It combines everything that any music lover needs, from the sexy "Oh Lately It's So Quiet" to the head bopping "Crash The Party" and the philisophical "The House Wins" resting at in the middle, only at the end of the CD. Whatever. I highly reccommend it to any music lover out there-you will not be dissappointed.

If you like fun rock that is catchy yet good in style get OK GO's new album OH NO. You can sing along to most of the songs because they are all so enchanting. They don't write corny music and no other band can make the word hallelujah sound so sexy like in their song "Let it Rain"

It's hard to find a cd now adays with enough good songs on it it's worth buying. Maybe the reason for internet options itunes, napster, etc. But i can honestly say without a doubt Oh No is worth every penny, every cent, every dollar that you invest into it. They will feel you with the ecstasy of love before you can say "OH NO!" -Alex

I couldn't believe my ears when I heard this album! I didn't believe that Ok Go could equal, let alone exceed, the standard of their first album! This album is full of fun and beauty. One of those rare albums you could never tire of hearing! Beautiful! Rebecca Davis

Wow. This album was amazing. I literally couldn't stop dancing until the cd was finished playing. It's everything I look for in a rock album- upbeat, entertaining, unique, refreshing- it's all in there. This is definetly making it onto my top 5 cd's of all time list.

If you like good music, you'll like this record. Plain and simple. Rawer and smoother than their last, but just as good. It's a good buy and an even better piece of work. There's a song for every mood you're in. A rare good AND new band. Check it out.

I love this album like I love the air I breath. Ok Go's songs are so catchy and creative, they really stick with you, i would say that this band can pull anything off, from their video of "a million ways to be cruel" to their fabulous live performances, the sound on the album is really mellow, yet full of energy, and Damiam Kulash's voice is irresistible. a must buy for anyone

I recently saw Ok Go live, before I bought this CD, and I was impressed. They were full of energy, humor, and "the will to rock." Needless to say, I immediately went out and bought Oh No. The songs are catchy and easy to listen to, and the lyrics are smart and entertaining. I would definitely recommend buying this CD.

This is one of the best CD's out there. Even my mom (who hates alternative) found herself bobbing her head to this amazing masterpiece. Get it. Now.

I assimilated to this C.D. Extremely quickly. It has the most inventive keyboard parts and harmonies i've ever heard. The Bass players falsetto is a great suplement to the lead singer's unique voice. I never get tired of OH NO.
