    Essential primer

For anyone who wants a firm foundation for understanding everything about that black goo rocking the world, this is the essential primer. As its title suggests, it is a text book, an unbiased account of the history, geology, economic and political issues having to do with oil. For investors, producers, land managers, royalty owners, environmentalists, legislators, judges, and anyone who is wondering what's with the volatility at the pump, it should be mandated reading. It has its dry and rigorous moments, but in its way, it is a page turner.
