Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 4-8-- The first three chapters, covering the history, production, and uses of oil; its significance in modern society; the detrimental effects of spills; and some notorious events are written in a superficial and somewhat convoluted style. Conversely, the final two chapters, which describe the types of spills, the variety of methods used to deal with them, and the specialists involved are clear and adequately treated, providing current technological information that is not readily available to young readers. Excellent full-color photographs enhance and explain the text. Sauvin's Carrying Energy (Silver Burdett, 1989) does not discuss oil exclusively and is not concerned with the hazards of transport. --Meryl Silverstein, American Museum of Natural History, New York City
