Overview

Cornetist Ernie Carson is a fiery Dixieland player who also takes a few good-humored vocals on this Stomp Off CD. Kim Cusack (doubling on clarinet and alto), trombonist Tom Bartlett and pianist Pete Clute are also fine soloists, but clarinetist Bob Helm (who is consistently out of tune) was clearly past his prime at this point. The generally cheerful set revives quite a few long-forgotten ditties, including "Onion Bender's Lament," "Could You Be True to Eyes of Blue," "My Castle In Spain Is a Shack In the Lane" and "All Birds Look Like Chickens to Me."
