Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Sarapin, a founding member of the New Jersey Graveyard Preservation Society, provides comprehensive and enthusiastic insight into historic and notable burial grounds. The book has two distinct parts. The first is an introduction to the traditions and customs of burying the dead, as well as assorted folklore and legends. While some general overview is offered, the emphasis is upon New Jersey and the region. The second part is a guide to 127 selected burial grounds in all 21 counties and includes specific points of interest. The liberal use of graphics and maps makes this an attractive and useful volume. While the book is not going to command a broad audience, this is a highly readable effort that is appropriate for both public libraries in the New Jersey region as well as college libraries supporting this type of historical collection.-Robin P. Peek, GSLIS, Simmons Coll., Boston
