Once again author Lauren Carr has created a compelling, humorous, heartfelt, mystery thriller that will throw even Perry Mason or the teams from CSI off the real killer’s trail until she reveals them the truth at the end.

    Great murder mystery!

Old Loves Die Hard is the second book in Lauren Carr's Mac Faraday series. I reviewed the first book earlier - It's Murder My Son. Well, the second book is at least as good as the first! Mac's ex-wife comes shows up, wreaking havoc on the new life he's made in Deep Creek Lake; her death only increases the confusion.

Carr continues to write interesting characters. Some you want to get to know, some you probably don't. She keeps the plot twisting and turning so guessing the bad guy is quite a challenge. Mac's wry humor adds just the right seasoning to make a well-rounded mystery.

You don't have to read the books in order, they read well as stand-alones. However, I recommend it. Once you read either one of them, you'll want to read the other, so just get them both and clear your weekend!

*Disclaimer: I received this book free from the author. I was not required to write a positive review.

    Great Sequel!

The second novel in the Mac Faraday series, Old Loves Die Hard, is a wonderful mystery novel involving the murder of Mac Faraday's ex-wife. Carr has again created an action packed suspense novel, bringing back the beloved characters of Mac Faraday, Archie, police Chief David O'Callaghan, and the ever-mischievous Gnarly. I absolutely loved the many twists and turns within the novel, keeping me on the edge of my seat as the story unfolded. Carr's superb characterization causes the reader to feel like they're a part of the story, as if the characters are close friends. I really enjoyed this novel, especially as Carr continues to surprise me at every turn within her stories; I never saw the ending coming, and I highly recommend this series to any reader looking for a great murder mystery with wonderful characters, lots of suspense, and endings that will leave you reeling. Four stars.

    Murder and a Kleptomaniac dog!

Old Loves Die Hard - Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat

"We did have a good marriage," she choked out. "If I hadn't made that one mistake-" Clasping her arms around his neck she tried to kiss him.

While diving backwards to dodge her lips, he released her hold on his neck. "You threw me out of my own home." He folded her hands in her lap.

"You were always such a gentle man." Each word came out slowly and deliberately in her effort to appear in control.

"Funny," Mac said, "that's not what your lawyer told the judge."

"Stephen told him to say that." Her tears fell anew. "If he hadn't seduced me - he made me all these promises and told me how you didn't treat me right and how I deserved so much better than our little house in the suburbs with its little lawn and.He said that I deserved so much more and that he could give it all to me because I deserved more." She tried to make her smile as becoming as possible in her condition. "What about us?"

    "There's no us, Christine."

"You can't abandon me like this Mac," she cried. "I've lost everything. I've got nothing. When Stephen left." She broke into heavy sobs. "Oh, Mac." She collapsed into his lap.

Mac Faraday is Christine's ex-husband. She left him for greener pastures that have now turned brown due to no more money on her part. Stephen Maguire promised Christine the stars but when her money ran out, so did Stephen.

The divorce virtually put Mac on the streets. Christine was awarded their home and everything that went with it. But, to Mac's surprise, he inherited his birth mother's estate and everything that went with it. In other words, Mac went from being dirt poor with nothing but a policeman's salary to becoming filthy rich and retired. Now, Christine wants another chance.

When Christine appeared at Mac's door, she had had more than enough to drink and he knew he couldn't just put her out on the streets in her condition so he decides to put her up in the penthouse of the five-star hotel that was part of his inheritance. His plan was to deal with her the next morning after she sobered up. What he didn't expect was to find not just Christine, but also Stephen-dead in his own private quarters of the hotel.

Old Loves Die Hard was a jewel to read. Mac is the perfect ex-policeman turned wealthy character. Archie, the computer whiz that lives in the guest house, is taking on a more personal role in this Faraday Mystery. But my favorite character has to be Gnarly the Kleptomaniac dog. Gnarly was actually a member of the military that was given a dishonorable discharge for reasons unknown to Mac.

Old Loves Die Hard has everything.murder, suspense, politics, action and humor. As the plot of the story takes you back into the past, I feel the ending will come as much a surprise to you as it did to me. Author Lauren Carr, hooked me with It's Murder My Son so I'm asking her to "Please keep this series going!"

Review:Old Loves Die Hard by Lauren Carr 5 STARS Well now this

Review:Old Loves Die Hard by Lauren Carr
5 STARS Well now this week have read all 3 Mac Faraday novels and have really enjoyed them. They are full of twists and turns you might guess some but you won't guess all its secrets. They are clean as in no sex scenes or any vulgar langage but a lot of murder. This book Old Loves Die Hard is the second Mac Faraday novel. Mac is enjoying a visit with Archie and his half brother David when his ex-wife knocks at his door drunk asking for a second chance. Mac does not want another chance after 20 years of marriage his wife kicked him out of his house. She got the house and he got the credit cards bills he did not charge. Then right after he was told he inheirited millions when mystery writer Robin died. Mac was her son that she gave up for adoption 40 years ago. Mac took his ex-wife up to the 5 star inn he also inhierted to check her into. Mac found out at that time that he actually had his own penthouse suite that only for his & his guests use. Before Mac could take her up his ex-wife Christine took off when she saw the guy who she left Mac for and lived with till her money was gone Stephen and had a yelling fight with. After Mac took Christine up to the suite made arrangement to have breakfast with her in the morning when she was sober. When she was not down to meet Mac for breakfast he went up to get her and found Stephen dead and then he found Christine dead in the tub. Even with Mac working as a homicide detective for 20 years he made many mistakes before he called the murder in. Mac was now a suspect in the death of his ex-wife and her lover. It was a media circus that the murder took place in a 5 star inn in the owner's private suite who just inhierited millions 3 months ago. David the new Police chief is also Mac half brother though they just met months ago. David won't answer Mac's phone calls. Mac finds out some of whats going on from the man who is in charge of security. The more they find out why Stephen was here and staying at Mac's inn the more questions they have. The more they find the more dead bodies show up. Someone even takes shots at both David and Mac. Thier is humor in this mystery and part of it is with Mac's dog that he was left. Very smart dog who was a thief. I am sad that I have read all the Mac Faraday mysteries that are out. I look forward to reading more in the future I hope. I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Netgalley. 04/26/2011 PUB CreateSpace Acorn Book Services

Mac Faraday, Archie Monday, and Gnarly are again working their magic to solve a murder in Spencer.

Spencer, Maryland, was hit again with a double murder inside the penthouse at Mac's Inn. This sequel brought in new characters that included high profile attorneys and judges who may be murderers. The twists and turns involved in the solving of the murder is quite creative. Lauren Carr is a great mystery writer. This book gives you more background about the characters that you loved in her first book and gives you a lot of information about investigations and how the judicial system works.....great research done by the author.

The murderer in this tale is pretty clever and knows a lot about the connections the people she is killing have with each other. The way the story weaves definitely keeps you guessing....is it the judge and his attorney girlfriend....is it the Spanish-speaking maid...is it Mac's murdered ex-wife who got herself killed as well or someone totally out of the blue? When will we find out? They all seem to be guilty. I guess you will have to read OLD LOVES DIE HARD to see. :)

This sequel is first-rate but not as gripping as her first book....it didn't grab me from the first page as much as the first one did, but as it continues it gets intense and good....and ooh la la on the ending....you will love it. It actually is good in a different way from the first book by including more of Mac's previous experiences as a detective and giving insight into the solving of crimes.

For someone who loves twists and turns and suspense up until the last page you won't want to miss this brilliant mystery. I am definitely delighted I found the Mac Faraday mystery series. I love his character and the mysteries. 4/5

Looking forward to Lauren's next book in the series:
