This is a gem of a story to do with time travel--in fact, one of the best I’ve ever read. The device for transport back and forth between time is incredibly unique and creatively used by the author. The reader is immediately drawn into the story by the opening line, “Right on time they come. I been waiting over a hundred years,” uttered by Old Miguel, a well-traveled (back in time) wise man as he spies the van, carrying the two new school teachers toward his rickety gas station in his fictional town of Pichon, New Mexico. The story that evolves between this start and the surprise twist at the end got me turning the pages faster and faster as I went along. Old Miguel is a must for avid readers of time travel, historical fiction, and mystery. Sally H. Clark is a fresh, new voice in novel-length fiction.
