Yes, if you are Jewish, and if you have any interest in Judaism, Zionism, or Israeli history, this is a must read. And, no, this is not great literature. No, this is not Kafka, or some other literary wizard creating a literary spider web, instead this is an incredibly detailed look of what one European man (ok, not just any Europeasn man) thought the future Jewish state would like. At times, to be honest, the story has whiffs of distinct racism - sort of an anti-'Mein Kampf' - but, for the most part, the spirit of the book is humanistic. In this 'new old' state everyone will love the Jews. The most surprising aspect of this book is the vehicle in which Herzl wrote the story: the protagonist is a down-and-out Jewish man who spends half of his life on a deserted island. Wasn't exactly expecting Robinson Crusoe.
