Overview

The third volume of Thump's Old School series, originally released during the early '90s -- back when such compilations were not plentiful -- compiles '70s funk and '80s club-oriented R&B, almost all of which is essential for fans of the stuff. As usual, there are no obscurities here, unless you count the well-known but hard-to-find-on-CD "I Like What You're Doing to Me" by Young & Company. Some inclusions, like Brick's "Dusic," were clearly mastered from vinyl, but back in the '90s, this series was filling a serious void in the compilation market. When Thump reissued the disc in 2011, the label replaced Herbie Hancock's "Rock It" with Jody Watley's "Real Love."
