Overview

Frugé fiddled in what he called a "yokedy-yokedy" style, described in the liner notes as one which "consists of delicate grace notes, piercing chords, and a rocking of the bow from treble to bass strings and back to treble." He plays traditional Cajun standards and some songs he picked up from Cajun Black fiddlers on this 1988 recording, which features some vocals from Vorance Barzas and Ann Savoy (the latter of whom also plays some guitar). Originally issued on LP as Arhoolie 5044, the 1998 CD reissue adds ten bonus cuts recorded in 1979, 1983, and 1989 at the home of renowned local musicians Ann & Marc Savoy; Marc Savoy and Michael Doucet add some guitar and fiddle on these. It's traditional Cajun fiddle music for diehard fans of that idiom.
