Overview

It’s all ballet, all the time for Olivia—but can she find some balance? This deluxe picture book features embossed pages and a textured cover.

When Olivia learns that her role model, Prima Ballerina Penelope Twinkletoes, “eats, drinks, and sleeps ballet,” Olivia vows to do the same. She practices the five ballet positions while setting the dinner table and even does arabesques while taking Baby William for a walk in the stroller. In fact, Olivia is so busy thinking about ballet that she misses a homework assignment and a playdate. What’s an aspiring ballerina to do? Find a solution that is perfectly en pointe!

This beautiful picture book makes a wonderful companion to OLIVIA Acts Out, OLIVIA Claus, OLIVIA Says Good Night, and OLIVIA Dances for Joy.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
Olivia, a sweet pig, wants to become a wonderful ballerina. Her teacher tells the class that in order to become a great ballerina, they must eat, sleep, and dream ballet. Olivia decides to follow that advice. When she takes her brother, William, out for a walk, she stops to practice some of her ballet steps. Because she took so long, she misses her playdate with her friend Francine. At dinner, she wants everyone to speak French, and at school, she daydreams about ballet when the teacher reads a story. When she is playing soccer as the goalie, she misses every shot because she is practicing her ballet steps. At school the next day, she does not know about the story since she was not paying attention, so her teacher, Mrs. Hoggenmuller, talks to her after class. Mrs. Hoggenmuller tells her how she always wanted to be a teacher, but she did other things and did not think about it all the time. Olivia thinks Mrs. Hoggenmuller is right, so Olivia decides to just wear her ballet outfit all the time. This large book is printed on heavy pages, so it would withstand lots of wear and tear from young readers. It is primarily a book to be read aloud to children, and it would make a good bedtime story. The illustrations are large and colorful. The book is one of the "Olivia" series, this tale based on the television series. Children should enjoy this pleasant story. Reviewer: Vicki Foote
