Read an Excerpt

For nature lovers, the jewels of Olympic National Park are so splendid and diverse that they could well be the tale of a treasure hunter's wildest dreams. While most people who have seen and studied maps will tell you that Olympic National Park is much like "three parks in one," they also might miss part of the big picture. Yes, it is true that Olympic has sizeable regions that contain majestic snow-capped mountains, lush vivid green forests with towering trees, and a wild coast with rocky, mysterious vistas that moan with audible whispers from the sea. The parts that many people miss in the "three parks in one" scenario are the rushing rivers, serene lakes, and glaciers that also play a big role in the experiences we can have as we journey and explore the treasure-laden places within Olympic National Park. Perhaps it is wiser to think that we are not so much visitors to the park who seek rare treasures, but instead that we part of what it is as important stewards in regard to what happens in the park. After all, it is important to remember that a group of thoughtful people once decided to help protect these places so that we could enjoy them today.

    Helpful overview

This was very helpful in preparing for our visit-espcially the mileage & time distances info that was given for getting from one area of the park to another. It was nice to have a detailed map so we could make a plan before arriving.
