Omen [2006 Original Soundtrack]

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Andrew Velez
For this "devilish" thriller, master film composer Jerry Goldsmith wrote the main motif and the entire layout for the chorus of "Ave Satani" in a single day. And after eight previous Oscar nominations, (PLANET OF THE APES, CHINATOWN, THE SAND PEBBLES, etc.), he finally took home the gold in 1976 for best original score. The music is eerie and darkly memorable, and Goldsmith's particular genius for setting mood can be heard in "The New Ambassador" theme, an almost romantic, recurring passage that serves as an effective contrast to the soundtrack's more ominous "Killer's Storm." While the concluding "Omen 76/06" resurrects Goldsmith's now-classic themes, Beltrami otherwise makes few overt nods to his predecessor -- instead his work rests firmly in the tradition of previous efforts like the Scream trilogy and The Faculty, emphasizing complex thematic structures and taut, suspenseful pacing. What undermines this incarnation of The Omen
