Overview

Ayn Rand chose Leonard Peikoff to be her successor as the spokesman for Objectivism. And in this brilliantly reasoned, thought-provoking work we learn why, as he demonstrates how far America has been detoured from its original path and led down the same road that Germany followed to Nazism. Self-sacrifice, Oriental mysticism, racial 'truth,' the public good, doing one's duty—these are among the seductive catch-phrases that Leonard Peikoff dissects, examining the kind of philosophy they symbolize, the type of thinking that lured Germany to its doom and that he says is now prevalent in the United States. Here is a frightening look at where America may be heading, a clarion call for all who are concerned about preserving our right to individual freedom.

    More Than Just History

The Ominous Parallels is a history book written the way history should be written. Leonard Peikoff focuses on the main cause driving the events behind Hitler and the popularity of Nazism: ideas. He rightly dismisses economic or deterministic causes. He instead traces the philosophical ideas entrenched in Germany by the early 1900s showing how these ideas made Germany rife for the takeover of a man preaching blind allegiance and sacrifice to the state above all else. Peikoff doesn¿t stop there. He then demonstrates how these similar ideas are being preached by the intellectuals in America. To truly understand the causes of Nazism and the way to fight the ideas that led to it, and could lead to further destruction in the future, this book is a must read.

An essential book for all concerned with American politics.

This is an incredible book in that it compares the political situation in America today with that of pre-WWII Germany. It debunks the popular myths regarding why Hitler was able to gain political control over Germany, and shows how America is headed down a similar path. The good news is that the author details how this progression can be stopped.

    I Also Recommend:

    Great but frightening read.

Ominous Parallels is a transforming book on the understanding of the philosophy related to pre-WWII Nazi Germany. It demonstrates how Hitler and the Nazi regime were able to manipulate the minds of average people and vilify the Jewish community. It also reveals a stark comparison to the political and social views that are being thrust upon the American people today. Although it does not have a positive Christian view point, I would highly recommend this book to everyone!! It may cause you to look at our government and politicians in another, not so flattering, light.
