Overview

A story of life and growing-up in the inner city during a more innocent time. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes sad, sometimes serious, sometimes as carefree and footloose as youth itself. During a time when the so-called generation gap was a wide as the ocean, these young boys journey through their young lives with hope, honesty, and dreams of being the best they can, no matter what the challenge and regardless of what it takes. The street was raw and kind, tough and educating to say the least. The times were much more innocent than today but the children were the same as they've always been. From tough language learned from the streets, to true values learned from their parents, friends and neighbors, growing-up in the city was an experience that left memories, values and standards unequaled by anything else experienced since those warm summer days on 29th Street.

Perfect Description of growing up in the inner city

Fabulous story about just how life was and living in the inner city was during the stormy 1960's. I did not grow up in Philadelphia but the author's description of childhood in the city and the values of the times fits just about any North American city during the 1960's and 1970's. Wonderful analogies to the times and character of neighborhoods and exact references to kids growing up and finding their own (non electronic) fun and games; no boredom in those days. My hat off to the author.
