    WORTHLESS! DO NOT USE THIS BOOK TO RAISE YOUR CHILD!

    I found so many FALSE scientific statements in this book, it is appalling. This book offers advice that could cause physical and pyschological damage to your child. PLEASE do not follow the advice given in this book. Even the AAP stands against many of the statements in this book. I cry for the children whose parents believe this garbage! WHEN YOUR CHILD STOPS CRYING AT NIGHT, THAT MEANS THEY HAVE GIVEN UP AND KNOW YOU ARE NOT COMING. THIS IS PSYCHOLOGICALLY DAMAGING! NEW RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS ACTUALLY CAUSES BRAIN DAMAGE, INSECURITY, AND A HOST OF EMOTIONAL ISSUES! If you want to know how to raise a secure, well-behaved, loving, independent and happy child, please read Baby Bond by Linda Folden Palmer, The No-Cry Sleep Solution, Attachment Parenting: A Commonsense Guide to Understanding & Nurturing Your Baby, Mothering Magazine, or The Baby Sleep Book. These are MUCH more insightful and offer SCIENTIFIC documentation that is not taken out of context. Many of the so-called scientific excerpts from the experts in this book were taken out of context by the author. This book disgusts me and I cannot recommend it to ANY parent! PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

    Skip the first chapter if you are a single parent!!

    I am a single mother to 4 month old twins...and a parenting book junkie!After reading the reviews I had to have it... 'Chapter 1: Your Baby Needs a Family' as I read this I thought to myself, 'Oh, what a great place to start, maybe there's comments/tips/etc on single parent families too.' Three and a half pages later I literally threw the book across the room...needless to say it did not touch on anything except the importance of husband - wife parents how/why...NO EXCEPTIONS to this 'neccessity'. Not touching on the subject is one thing...all out bashing is another...heres an idea of their agressive descriptions: -most basic emotional need won't be met -unanswered question in her tiny heart -will not provide her heart's fullfillment -devestating results... According to their 'beliefs' single parent children are: emotionally unhealthy, unstable, insecure, uncertain, anxiety ridden, 'on the brink of disaster', unconfident, unsatisfied, unable to desire to share in joy, unable to seek the comforts of togetherness.... I am a very happy, successful, intelligent, dedicated, loving, confident single mother and found this EXTREMELY judgemental, hurtful, biased, ignorant, and just plan bull! Obviously most parents don't plan to be a single parent family and I am completely shocked that these authors are so insensitive to reality! After throwing the book across the room, I've decided to not only write this review...but to actually go ahead and read the book.... I will not let their ignorance prevent my children or myself from benefiting. I'm a firm believer that it is better for children to come from a broken home than to live in a broken home... hopefully someone can enlighten these fools.

    Gift of Sanity to New Mothers

    There is not enough space to write how grateful I am that someone took the time to research the wake, eat, sleep cycles of infants and wrote a book on it. Babywise is a must have for all new moms! I can tell you through personal experience that every method the Ezzos write on in this book works!! The argument that children whose wake, eat, sleep cycles are decided by their parents, are psychologically damaged is preposterous. Both of my children weighed 10 lbs. plus at birth and were heavy eaters and both were sleeping through the night by 10 weeks of age. This was no miracle. It was the intelligence of their mother to use the wisdom in this book and apply it's principles on scheduling her child's eating patterns, thus stabilizing the child's metabolism. Can this book be misused by legalist minds??? Yes, it can. But those who heed the warning in this book not to be legalistic about scheduling their child's day can have amazing things happening in their homes. The gift of sleep for a nursing mother/baby are priceless. Knowing why your baby is crying when they cry is incredible! Teaching your children at a later age to eat without pitching their food into the floor is a life skill. Training your children to have self-control and to be content to play alone for a small time each day is giving them opportunities to teach themselves. My children are amazing! But I have to give credit to the Ezzos and others who worked with them on publishing these books. Had I been made to feel guilty if I did not feed my child around the clock, share my bed, hold my baby every second of the day, rock him/her to sleep (which is beautiful, but unnecessary) I would have never had baby number two. Babywise gave me the gift of wanting to bring another precious being into this world, without fear of being burned out within the first four months of her life.
    To all new mothers out there, read this book, it will bring you peace and sanity!

    DO NOT READ if you are an Attachment/Natural Parent! You'll toss it. Or burn it. Or both.

    Babies in foreign orphanages stop crying and sleep and eat on a schedule just as this book suggests because they do not have their needs met. I am a professional counselor in training working specifically with children, and this book is nothing but "baby training" for the convenience of the parent. The suggestions here are not meant to for a bond with the child, they are meant to meet the needs of the parent. This book does not support breastfeeding in any fashion. Training a child is not parenting, training is something you do for animals. My child is happy and healthy at the age of 3 and naturally parented using my own intuitive methods, which happen to be attachment parenting I have found after the fact. He is smarter than his peers, and very sharing and caring. He sleeps twelve hours straight at night, and has since he was seven months old. I NEVER trained him, he set his own clock. This book teaches nothing but how to treat your child like a pet. This is not parenting. Not meeting your child's needs is something that will cause detrimental damage to the bond you could have with that child. It may not occur when they are small, but it may occur much later. The child does not trust the parent to answer very real needs of hunger, pain, and discomfort. So they stop crying. The baby gives up. It is as simple as that. If you want to be a "baby trainer" and not parent, please pick up this book. And listen to the heart wrenching cries of your starving baby. Starving for food, comfort, and love.

    Best book I read to prepare for baby!

    I purchased this book at the advice of my pediatrician and it was incredible. By following the advice in the book, my son started sleeping through the night at 7 weeks and 1 day! I have already started on the next book! A definite must by for anyone expecting a baby!

    Baby Stupid is more like it!

    This book is absolute, dangerous, rubbish. How many children have been harmed by the false information presented in these books? Just because you are a "preacher" and I use the term loosely, does NOT make you a baby expert. Parents: Please think about the advice given, it is DANGEROUS to a child. It is child abuse as far as I and many others are concerned.

    Horrible Phylosophy

    the way I see it this book could lead to major problems with your child and our culture as a whole. It suggest that you "train" your baby to sleep throught the night. If babies were made to do this they would come out this way. It actually suggests the baby is manipulating youto get it to feed it when it is hungry. Babies cry when they are hungry because they need fed when they are hungry. I have seen many babies not get enough nutrition on this "program". It is sad that someone would suggest to not feed and love your child when they need love and nourishment! Please look at alternatives I did and am enjoying every second of holding and loving and cuddling my infant and feeding her when she wants fed. She loves other people still and hardly ever cries unless she is in pain.

    Got my son sleeping through the night at 2 months

    I cannot say enough good things about this book IF you read it from the first to the last page and use your own common sense. I was trying the 3 hour schedule at first and the day I changed to the 2,5 hour schedule, he slept from 11:30pm to 6am. He is now 9 months old, sleeps from 7:30 pm to 7 am, eats very well, is always content and is on the 80th percentile for weight and 90th for height. Just remember that at the beginning they are always hungry. I wish you luck!

    Definately worth trying

    The book is more of your guideline. Be wise and mindful, otherwise you can get very frustrated. Keep trying and be persistent if you really want this guideline to work. The moment you and you baby get it, you will be very happy. It worked for me and I keep this book on my desk all the time. I call it bible. I always was finding something helpful there.

    AWESOME BOOK

    I breastfed both of my babies and followed this book, adjusting it to our needs, and it gave me the sanity I needed to continue breastfeeding for so long. It's not for everyone, but it does indeed work for a breastfeeding mother. An overtired, extremely sleep deprived mother who feels like a pacifier due to on demand feedings and is considering 'giving it up' because of this would benefit from this method. We can't all be martyrs. Especially when we have older toddlers to take care of!

    Why the bashing?

    I don't understand why the author feels the need to bash parents who practice Attachment Parenting or La Leche League. In essence, PDF (parent directed feeding) is 'demand feeding' if you are truly meeting the hunger cues of your infant. I agree with the parts (also recommended by the AAP) about not using sleep prompts and putting the baby to sleep while still drowsy so he/she can learn how to self-soothe and fall asleep - but I really don't feel good about this book. Even adults have variations in their hunger and sleep patterns, depending on environmental and physiological factors. Why is it that our culture is so bent on behaviorally training our babies and children to meet our needs - to make their schedules convenient for us, rather than us meeting their needs, having patience with them as their schedule adjusts according to their physical and psychological needs? If there is one thing EVERY parent should think about, it is practicing more patience and understanding that each child certainly is unique, as is each parent.

    Good place to start...

    I am on my second infant now. I tried to follow the Baby wise approach with my first, and he has done well. Started sleeping through the night at 5 months. This book provides a good starting point. It's hard to know what to do with an infant in those first few weeks. I appreciate having some sort of plan to go by, even if my baby and I don't always follow it perfectly.

    Worked great for us

    Although not a fan of his subsequent books, I applied this approach with my first child and kept my sanity while I breastfed her for 12 months. She was sleeping from 10pm to 5am by about 8 - 10 weeks. Another mother in my playgroup also applied his approach and had similar success. The three other gals were exhausted from the demand feedings and the unpredictable schedules... I did not abide by his recommendations so rigorously with my second child and she did not sleep through the night until 11 months old. We were miserable -- the whole year is blur. We're expecting our third in a month and I've already started re-reading this. I highly recommend.

    "Disguised Child Abuse"

    This book is written by an evangelical christian man who has zero validity or backing in his "research". There is endless documentation of individual horror stories of loving parents who by bad luck followed the imformation in this book and ended up with children who were diagnosed with failure to thrive.     This is not a breastfeeding book

    This book should not be listed under the heading of breastfeeding. The authors are not experts in the field of lactation or infant care and it is misleading. This book is a method to have babies conform to their parents schedule and for parents to put their infant on a strict schedule of activities. It has nothing to do with the research based evidence of managing breastfeeding sucessfully. This would never be a book I would recommend to parents. If parents are looking for good books or information on breastfeeding they should contact their local International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

    Garbage

    This book might as well be titled "Manual of child neglect" because that's exactly what it advocates. Written by 2 guys with questionable parental skills and even less medical knowledge who apparently got tired of their babies crying and "bothering" them. The book is full of false claims and nonexistent, made-up research. Even though the authors are poor doctors they sure are great businessmen. They knew this book would be very popular among lazy parents who want instant gratification and a book to justify their "me, me, me" attitude. Sorry for the inconvenience but there are no shortcuts in parenting.

    Baby Torture and blatant misinformation

    So first of all this book recommends refusing to give night feeds after a baby is 2 months old. They also include the wrong claim that breast feeding a baby more than 'usual' would decrease the milk supply 'personally I have found this increases it as this often happens when the baby is extra hungry and going through a growth spurt... when they need the extra calories, so your body compensates'. They also say to leave small babies crying for long periods of time, to leave babies in playpens a lot, to swat a baby over 6 months old for foolishness 'just plain evil' , to spank over age 2 and to clean up their own toilet accidents themselves as punishment. Then I find out after some extra reading the book has actually been formally condemned by just about every baby doctor, lactation consultant and psychologist around for promoting technique that encourages starvation, developmental delay and psychological problems. I find it heartbreaking that so many are giving it good reviews. These people are not at all qualified to be making a ton of money off such a lot of sad rubbish

    Scary.

    I cannot for the life of me understand why people think that getting their infants to sleep for twelve hours is so important. ADULTS wake up during the night. Tiny babies have tiny tummies and need to be cared for, loved, fed and know that their parents are there for them. No surprise that the author (Ezzo) has a strained relationship with his children at best. It breaks my heart think to of so many babies who just want their mamas to be left alone to scream in dark rooms by themselves.

    Try No Cry Sleep Solution

    This book really didn't ring true to me as a parent and this author actually recanted a lot of his techniques. This isn't the way to teach our young children.
