Editors Schaberg (religious studies, Univ. of Detroit Mercy), Alice Bach (Catholic studies, Case Western Reserve Univ.), and Esther Fuchs (Judaic studies, Univ. of Arizona, Tucson) have collected 14 essays by leading international feminist Jewish and Christian scholars to honor the diversity and seminal significance of Elisabeth Schussler Fiorenza's work. The author of numerous scholarly works, Fiorenza (Harvard Divinity Sch.; In Memory of Her) is a well-known feminist theologian. Here, the buried voices of women in the past are enlivened to empower women in the present, as seen in Antoinette Clark Wire's "Rising Voices: The Resurrection Witness of New Testament Non-Writers" and in poet Alicia Ostriker's "Jephthah's Daughter: A Lament," intended as a text for women's celebration and remembrance of horror in order to liberate women from abuse. Transgressive critical approaches resurrect forgotten Christologies, as in Schaberg's "Magdalene Christianity," and nonnormative Judaisms, as in Tal Ilan's "Paul and Pharisee Women" and Joan E. Taylor's "The Women `Priests' of Philo's De Vita Contemplativa." Highly recommended as a broad-ranging collection of essays for feminists, religious scholars, and others; for academic, seminary, and large public libraries. [Two other collections of essays in honor of Fiorenza are available this fall: Toward a New Heaven and a New Earth (Orbis) and Walk in the Ways of Wisdom (Trinity).-Ed.]-Carolyn M.
