Good book. But...i felt the ending was rushed. Also, a few gramatical errors...(for him and I- should be-him and me). I think it followed the traditional pattern of most romance novels. I did feel like Isabelle gave Monty his due, but it took him admitting that he had wronged someone else for her to get a spine. I wanted her to really lay into him! It was a quick read that I would reccomend...about 250 pages. I'm looking forward to seeing what she does with Lilly's story. I hope we get some updates on this couple as there was no epilogue.

    Great

I enjoyed Marshall and Isabelle's story. They loved each other but insecurities, jealousy and a headstrong mother-in-law breaks them up. Isabelle is ruined by accusations of infidelity by Marshall's mother. By the time Marshall realizes Isabelle is innocent, will it be too late for them ?

Boyce’s well written, well edited novel takes centre stage with a great deal of style.   She kept me captivated throughout, transporting me back in time. The story and setting was so intricately developed that the world around me dropped away, and I was left firmly in 19th century London ton.

The characters in this novel were remarkable.  I thoroughly enjoyed how Boyce delves into the lives of the main characters, both in the past and the present.   The in-depth character development allows the reader to fully grasp the situations in which the characters find themselves.  Boyce shows her readers both what is expected of her characters due to social norms and what they want and/or need to be themselves.  The contradictions make for an intriguing look at live during the time period in question.

What a fantastically romantic tale.  Boyce combines family intrigue with suspense and two main characters who truly love one another (even if they can’t see it themselves) to create a novel you won’t be able to put down!

Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

Divorce in the time of Cholera

Isabelle, a woman of relatively humble origins, marries a duke. They have a jolly good time until he leaves, she invites a male friend (of whom the author never fully explains the closeness with the heroine), she falls, cracks a rib, and is accused of infidelity by her mother-in-law. Marshall divorces his wife and she exiles herself. While in exile, her brother cuts her off, and she's forced to work for a living. That is probably the only innovative and well thought out part of the book. I did enjoy that the heroine picked herself up by the bootstraps and worked for a living. But I digress. Marshall finds out and forces her brother to keep taking care of her. Without much thought, Marshall eventually forgives Isabelle, Isabelle forgives Marshall, and they remarry. It just seemed that for the time period, the divorce was treated pretty matter of fact. Isabelle, though not fully welcomed, wasn't given the cut direct, or rejected from most circles, which seemed kind of far fetched. Plus, Marshall just seemed so passive in that he was ruled by his mother, sister, and wife (ex-wife). Still, I finished the book and it wasn't a difficulty to do so.
