Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
In this homemaker's equivalent to The One-Minute Manager, the authors set out a system whereby a month's worth of family dinners can be cooked and frozen in one day, ready to microwave or reheat in a conventional oven whenever needed. Their step-by-step advice on assembling a shopping list, consolidating tasks such as chopping vegetables, grating cheese, browning meat, etc., undoubtedly saves time in making the stews, casseroles, chili and ham loaves with which they illustrate their points. But then the reader has side dishes to consider, as well as the inconvenience of flipping back and forth between what are essentially ho-hum recipes. All in all, this is an unimaginative parry at kitchen efficiency. Literary Guild and Doubleday Book Club alternate selections. (December)

Answered Prayer for a Working Mom!

I like to cook, but after working all day, I'm tired and cooking is the last thing on my mind when I get home. Therefore, my family has endured a lot of pizza, takeout, and sandwiches. But I bought this book and it is AWESOME! I started out with the two week plan and it was a busy day cooking, but SO worth it now that we're enjoying the fruits of my labor. I highly recommend this book to all busy people who still want to enjoy nourishing, good home-cooked meal for their families.

Okay, but better books out there

This book was my first introduction to OAMC, but, I had it for years before ever trying it. Then, I bought '30-Day Gourmet' and with their processes and worksheets, I actually suceeded in doing a full-months cooking in a day (okay, a day and a half!). I prefer 30-Day because the authors show you how to incorporate your own recipes and give you tools to organize with. This book just has you follow their plan, with a caveat of 'add your own' recipes into the plan if desired. But, no tools to use. IMHO, not a very useful book.

    Time Saving and Fun!

Whether you are a stay at home mom or a busy excutive this book is wonderful. The whole plan for OAMC is laid out right before you with several sample menus, for 2 or 4 weeks even a low fat plan. Definitely worth the money!

Mother of 18month old and 3 month old

This book is wonderful! The recipes are simple and delicious... my husband (a most picky eater) has nothing but rave reviews for the meals. We've only tried the two week plan so far, but it should last us almost a month! The authors have thought of everything from grocery lists to dinner conversation topics to who should do the dishes!!! This book is a must... a perfect wedding or baby shower gift!

Hope you like condensed cream of 'fill-in-blank' soup

I thought the organizational tips of prepping that much food was excellent. The dishes were bland and heavy on condensed 'cream of whatever soup'. Everything I tried tasted like glorified tv dinners.

Want a book that can change your life?

This is the book for you! Using this system can save you time and money in the kitchen and most importantly your sanity! The recipes are for 'real' food that all my kids will eat. My children's favorite is the calzones and French Bread Pizza while mine is the Chicken and Wild Rice.

Time Saved for over 6 years

I have been using this book as the foundation for my 'once-a-month' cooking for over 6 years. I have learned to add my own recipes to offer variety in meal planning. I am always ready when a friend has a baby or goes into the hospital unexpectedly. I have been thanked by many husbands!!

    Wonderful time saver!

If any book saved my sanity as a working mother, this was it! Having a method for cooking only once a month has saved me many, many hours, and solved the problem of the witching hour. The recipes are simple, 'regular' kind of food--- the sausage and rice casserole is one of my husband's favorites.
