Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Children's Literature
This bull (frog) has lost his hop but readers will be surprised where he looks for it. Compound words are broken when the page turns. So, grass becomes grasshopper and lady becomes ladybird. The illustrations are cleverly done, too. The whiskers of a cat are seen on one page and on the next the whiskers appear on a catfish. What appears to be a close up of a stage curtain is actually the curtains of a stagecoach when you turn the page. The lively illustrations have a wonderful texture and a sophisticated use of color. The uncluttered design really helps the visual jokes. The text is hand-drawn in a gentle wave across the bottom of each page, very appropriate for a bullfrog in search of his hop.
