Overview

Many years ago a slighted fairy placed a curse on a beautiful young princess—a curse that caused her and all her female descendants to turn into mean, ugly witches if they ever touched a flower after turning sixteen. Now, Princess Emma, who is about to turn sixteen herself, is determined to break the spell once and for all. Emma travels back in time to the day the curse was placed on her ancestor in the hope of preventing the curse from being cast. Unfortunately she isn't successful in her efforts, but she does learn how to break it. Armed with this knowledge, Emma returns to her own time full of hope. But disaster ensues and Emma is about to give up completely—until true love shows itself in the most unexpected place of all.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In Once Upon a Curse by E.D. Baker, the third book in the series begun with The Frog Princess, Emma is about to turn 16 and therefore will be subject to a curse placed on her family generations back. Attempting to undo the curse, she travels back in time to the day the curse was first placed on Princess Hazel, and though Emma fails in one mission, she succeeds in another. Children's Literature
In a sequel to The Frog Princess and Dragon's Breath, Princess Emeralda returns as the Green Witch of her kingdom. The almost-sixteen Emma has a big problem: How can she marry her Prince Eadrick with the family flower curse hanging over her? Knowing that once past the big birthday the very touch of a petal will turn her into a cranky hag like Aunt Grassina and her grandmother, Emma decides to get to the very root of the curse by going back in time to the moment it was cast. Of course Eadrick has to tag along, not to mention L'il, Emma's friendly bat . . . Baker's Harry Potter for girls is filled with charms, (Help! A poet Emma is not!) and potions, and the brick-a-brack of a lightly sketched pseudo-medieval world. All to the good if it keeps kids reading between Rowlings. But for finer fantasy they really ought to be introduced to Diana Wynne Jones, or Tamora Pierce. 2004, Bloomsbury, Ages 8 to 12.

Hey, this isn't a terrible book. I actually like the characters, but don't read this if you're in seveth grade or higher-- you'd think it's boring. I kinda felt like it was in some places, but the whole conflict made me finish it quicker than I expected to. I still think that "Dragon's Breath" is the best, but this one isn't that bad.

This book was awesome!!! Of course, no book in a series really makes sense unless you read the whole series, and this is no exception. I loved the way the author grabbed your attention and didn't let go. This is a great book for anyone, young and old. I read the whole series, and enjoyed it VERY much!!!! If you like fantasy, this book is definitley for you!!! It has time travel, magic, talking animals, and all things fiction!!! Again I say, READ THIS BOOK!

I thought the book was actually pretty good Although {KEJ} was right. She needs to be independent. E.D Baker is a wonderful author. You might want to read 'Once, upon a Marigold'.

MY LIFE AT AGE 11** Everyone was running around. And me? I was locked in a dungeon spell. Yep, that's right. The only princess of the kingdom of treecrest was licked in her own dungeon. I am in here because it is the night before my 12 birthday. That's when i was supposed to leave forever- or at least until i broke the curse. "Food for your highness." Said a serving maid, coming to my cell. I saw my mother right behind her. "We are sorry to have to..." she puased thinking of the right word. "Contain you like this." She finished. "Well there are other ways, ya know." I grumbled. Mothers back stiffened. "What was that?" She questioned. "Nothing." I lied. She left with the serving maid and i used my magic to change the food into a feast. I quickly fell asleep after devouring the food. I woke long enough too hear the clock strike midnight. And that's when it happened. THE NEXT PART IS ON DRAGONS BREATH BY E. D. BAKER
