Overview

Many years ago a slighted fairy placed a curse on a beautiful young princess—a curse that caused her and all her female descendants to turn into mean, ugly witches if they ever touched a flower after turning sixteen. Now, Princess Emma, who is about to turn sixteen herself, is determined to break the spell once and for all. Emma travels back in time to the day the curse was placed on her ancestor in the hope of preventing the curse from being cast. Unfortunately she isn't successful in her efforts, but she does learn how to break it. Armed with this knowledge, Emma returns to her own time full of hope. But disaster ensues and Emma is about to give up completely—until true love shows itself in the most unexpected place of all.

With a bit of courage, a pinch of luck, and of course, a healthy dose of magic, Princess Emma charms her way through the third hilarious adventure in the Tales of the Frog Princess series.

Esmeralda, who is both a princess and a powerful witch, travels back in time to end a family curse so that she can marry her true love, Prince Eadric.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In Once Upon a Curse by E.D. Baker, the third book in the series begun with The Frog Princess, Emma is about to turn 16 and therefore will be subject to a curse placed on her family generations back. Attempting to undo the curse, she travels back in time to the day the curse was first placed on Princess Hazel, and though Emma fails in one mission, she succeeds in another. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
From The Critics
In a sequel to The Frog Princess and Dragon's Breath, Princess Emeralda returns as the Green Witch of her kingdom. The almost-sixteen Emma has a big problem: How can she marry her Prince Eadrick with the family flower curse hanging over her? Knowing that once past the big birthday the very touch of a petal will turn her into a cranky hag like Aunt Grassina and her grandmother, Emma decides to get to the very root of the curse by going back in time to the moment it was cast. Of course Eadrick has to tag along, not to mention L'il, Emma's friendly bat . . . Baker's Harry Potter for girls is filled with charms, (Help! A poet Emma is not!) and potions, and the brick-a-brack of a lightly sketched pseudo-medieval world. All to the good if it keeps kids reading between Rowlings. But for finer fantasy they really ought to be introduced to Diana Wynne Jones, or Tamora Pierce. 2004, Bloomsbury, Ages 8 to 12.

    Love it!

I really like this book. It's funny and cool. Emma is so awesome, and Eadric rocks, as usual. Haywood kinda disappointed me, but whatever. Lil is awesome, as is a new character, Prince Garrid. Even when he looked like a villain, I still loved him. Romance, comedy, and adventure ensues when Emma travels back in time, and a surprising new romance starts.

    Not bad

Hey, this isn't a terrible book. I actually like the characters, but don't read this if you're in seveth grade or higher-- you'd think it's boring. I kinda felt like it was in some places, but the whole conflict made me finish it quicker than I expected to. I still think that "Dragon's Breath" is the best, but this one isn't that bad.

    I Also Recommend:

    MMM it was acceptable

This book probably would have been better if I had read the first two books in the series. It was pretty good although I have been reading the Fablehaven series and it seemed very underworthy to Fablehaven. Not a must read but will settle for a time muncher.

    This is a good book

Do you like fantasies? Once Upon a Curse contains more magic than you would have imagined. This funny novel holds a great story of how a 15 year old princess named Emma tries to break a curse that has been put on all of the girls in her family. If any of the girl's in Emma's family ever touched a flower after turning 16 years old, they would turn nasty and mean. After Emma's favorite aunt becomes a victim of the curse, Emma sets off with her best friend bat, L'il, and her fiancé, prince Edward, back in time to find out how to break the curse. Once Upon a Curse holds suspense and humor, and captures your interest from the beginning of the book.

    Once Upon a Curse

Of all the books I have read, I have never read a romantic comedy. I usually read science fiction like the Harry Potter series or others of that sort. I always thought romantic comedies were for 'girlie-girls' ,but this sheds new light on the whole wide range of books that i can read. I look forward to reading No Place for Magic, the fourth book in the Frog Princess series.
