Description: This 31 page pamphlet describes, in poetry, a mother's experience with cancer.
Purpose: This pamphlet was created as a tool to help parents speak with their children about cancer and experiences related to cancer. The objectives are worthy and laudable. However, the methodology of a poem does not seem very helpful for many people.
Audience: This book is written for adults with cancer to share with their children. No information is given about the author; however, one infers from the forward that she is a woman with cancer.
Features: The text, in poetry form, relays a woman's experience with cancer from diagnosis through treatment. It is easy to read and moves quickly. It is printed in blue-gray color and a white background. Text is printed on one side with illustrations opposite the text. The colors are somewhat drab.
Assessment: Although I find the objectives laudable, this book/pamphlet is not very helpful in meeting them. More specific information on how to talk with children at various age levels is more important for the parent to understand. This information can then be adapted to a specific family situation.
