"Filled with magic and a love so deep it takes my breath away." —Romance Reader at Heart

Jackie Ivie is a native of Utah and attended the University of Utah on a full scholarship in Fine Art. She relocated to Wyoming for several years before moving to Anchorage, Alaska, where she lives with her husband and their four children and manages a division of a large service company. In her "spare time" between being a mom, a wife, and a businesswoman, Jackie can usually be found at her word processor, totally absorbed in another century while glancing occasionally at the magnificent snow-capped mountain views through her windows.

    I Also Recommend:

Jackie Ivie is a master of this game...

What happens when a self-confident female is pursued by a charming, determined Knight? A big dent in the Knight's ego is what occurs to Vincent Danzel as the woman he is pursing, Sybil, is willful and strong and one who has no use for a man be he Knight or commoner. Sybil has spent too much of her life used and unloved that she will let no one get close enough to hurt her ever again. Her purpose in life is that of healer and that is enough for any woman - or is it?

Vincent has been given a challenge by his cousin to find the lovely lass Sybil and without ever touching her make her love him and then leave her to feel the pain of love lost. Vincent is one to always accept a challenge especially when it involves gold, freedom and a victory over his cousin even when he is not aware of what is behind all this deception on his cousin's part. For Vincent there is much at stake and he is willing to do the task at hand regardless of how beautiful his intended victim is.

What Vincent never thought could happen is that Sybil, this slip of a woman, could prove to be a challenge and she could possibly best him. She is in fact it seems controlling their relationship and that calls for Vincent to provide a counter attack if anything ever did but every time he makes a turn here she is onto him and Sybil has every escape plan set up even calling upon her wolf Waif to aid her. However Sybil is up against the master of the game and he gets sharper and his senses keener when his prey is in sight and while she may temporarily elude him he will in the end get what he wants. But what Vincent once thought he wanted which was something he could walk away from he now is not sure that the love Sybil is offering may be a more powerful seducer than all the riches in the known world.

The fate that turns everything around and makes Vincent suddenly appear attractive and available is her widowed step-mother's plan to marry her off to an a horrid little man that only wants Sybil's perceived fortune. So Sybil prepares her own plan and in the end finds that maybe she can love a man if it turns out to be a Knight named Vincent. With many curves in the road to harmony blocking them at every turn will they be able to accomplish the impossible and fall in love even if it turns out Vincent may be so many more things than even he anticipated.

This story is magic pure and simple. There is little in the way of potions a just a few cures for the injured but the storyline between Sybil and Vincent will melt your heart and have you dreaming of castles and love spells. These two are the master of their own games but when they come up against one another and the rules are changed neither of them is given an updated playbook or can anticipate what is coming next. But what comes there way will absolutely take the reader's breath away and make you say "I too believe in love".

This is an interesting mid fifteenth century gender war

In 1457 in the Highlands Sybil Eschoncan runs the castle for her stepmother ever since her father died. Thus when her odious stepmother informs her she will marry Sir Ian, the healing herbalist is taken aback as she believes her intended is an evil shrimp only after her alleged treasure and cannot be the man her sister Kendran wished upon her.

His cousin arranges for Vincent Danzel to escape from prison with the stipulation he ruin Sybil; not physically as the odious relative plans to do this. Instead without laying one finger on Sybil, he plans to makes her fall in love with him and leave. Vincent assumes this should prove easy especially after he meets the mouse, but she stuns him with ordering him to take a bath. Soon the cocky confident charmer finds he is losing every encounter to Sybil who has Vincent convinced she has drugged his food or drink as he is falling in love. She persuades him to make love with her so she does not have to wed Ian. However, he wants more and struggles to convince his Sybil to marry him although she seems to be the one in control of their relationship.

This is an interesting mid fifteenth century gender war in which neither Sybil or Vincent understand the rules of the seduction game because the third party rule-maker has his own agenda. Although overly complicated with too many side subplots that in fairness bring out time and place, fans will enjoy the Highlander romance between the herbalist protected by Waif the wolf and the escaped convict, an expendable discard sent to seduce Sybil by her cousin.

I have read and enjoyed most of Jackie Ivie's books; however, this was a great disappointment. I ended up skimming through most of the book just to complete the story. The plot is wonderful but the execution is sorely lacking. Pass this one by.
