I thought this was a great book. It was a great book to start a series. I also love the characters.

Loved this! From the perspective of a sweet boy, this book told the story of strong family bonds that made the hardships of every day old-time farm life easier, where God was first, morality and responsibilities were expected, and "community" was how you survived. Funny, sad, romantic...and faith throughout! Review by CherishD

I have read many books by this author and have enjoyed all of them. This one was somewhat boring. It was a nice story but I m glad it was free.

This was okay, not one of the easiest reads. Was a little hard to follow until I was further into the book.

I absolutely love Jeannette Oke, however, this was not one of my top favorites of her books. I appreciate the different point of view, since there aren't many books written from a young boys eyes, but I just had a tough time getting through it. This would be a great book for younger readers! If you aren't familiar with Jeannette Oke, and don't find this book to be something you cared much for, please, please find another book by her! She is truly an amazing author!!

Very good book! Some of the words I found were a little annoying to read such as jest=just or iffen=if. Other than that one thing, I would recommend this book to everyone. There were sad and happy parts and parts when I couldn't put the book down! This book really does give the audience a positive outlook on life.

A true Janette Oke book. My only complaint is the use of what some think of is the vernacular of the times.

I highly recommend this book to all readers that love interesting books. There are a few parts of the book that are depressing, but has a happy ending. Great book that all ages should enjoy. :D

I really enjoyed this book told by a sweet, curious boy who has had more than a fair share of heartbreak in his young life. Josh figures it might be easier to let his heart harden and blame God for all that goes wrong in life. But through the love of family and a wonderful new "mentor" in town, he learns a better way. Faith in God works miracles The characters are all wonderful. I especially enjoyed Gramps and the uncomplicated, unselfish love he shares with everyone who crosses his life.

Janette Oke is one of my favorite authors. There is nothing she has written that I don't love. This is another great one.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and it is truly wonderful! It takes you back to when times may have been harder, but they seemed so much less complicated. The characters are so closely knit and it warmed my heart to actually feel their love for one another page-by-page. Just the right amount of laughter and tears. A terrific read from start to finish!

Sure it's a Christian story --but it NEVER gets preachy and has a great story line of an early farming community in maybe the late 1800's! You'll really like it!!!"
