~* Book One of the Salak'patan Series *~

'Truth is stranger than fiction', these words are an axiom on which a great many things may pivot. For Raven Sinclair these words have long since become a credo, a principle philosophy by which he has lived much of his life. As a creator of fiction, it might seem to some that these words would fade when faced with the realities he creates in his novels. But the Truth of his own reality is in fact stranger than the fiction he creates. Gifted with more than five senses, an outcast by choice, and someone compelled by a driving force he does not understand, Raven's truth is about to become a great deal more like the fiction he has created.

A single decision leads to events he could never have predicted and shoves him into motion down a path that he has unknowingly been following even before he was born. And it leads him to the last thing he could have expected, the long awaited love of his life. He finds her in the very last place he might have thought to look, as part of a government conspiracy to capture and control people just like him. All too soon he must confront a government that wants nothing more than to make him a toy soldier, a past he knew nothing about, a reality far bigger than he could ever imagine, and forces that will alter him and the way he looks at the world around him forever.

And even though for a time his changed life becomes quiet once more the forces of destiny are still guiding him along a path that leads right into the darkness. An ancient evil has been stirred up from the forgotten worlds and cosmic dust to strike at the very heart of his world, and it is not in his destined path to run from it.

As a substitute of a profile I find hard to make in a reasonable amounts of words, I'd like to offer my philosophy of writing.

Entertainment.
In as few words as possible that is what my books are about.

I wrote them for myself, I personally enjoy re-reading them, I enjoy creating new chapters in on going themes, and I decided to publish them on the chance some few might enjoy them. I did not write them with the intent of publication, I did not publish them with dreams of avarice, and I only, truly hope that there are readers out there who enjoy them as much as I do.

I cannot and I will not promise my readers will like my hobby, agree with my views, or find any entertainment in what I have written. My books were not written for everyone, hence not everyone will like them.

I will do my best to offer the best 'product' to my readers as I am able. I can not yet promise a mistake free experience, but I am one who is never satisfied. Each time I re-read my own words I find changes I wish to make. And I will do my best to leave notice when new editions are available.

Because just as each work I offer to the public might never quite seem finished, the ideas behind them were a process of creation and re-creation. Each thing I bring into the world has been written and re-written time and time again, and they never seem perfect to me no matter how many times they are re-imagined.

Just because you have liked something I have written be it free or not, is not a reason why you will like what else is written. My writing is an organic process, many stories have nothing save a beginning or a future image in my head I wish to make a world in order to play out.

However from that moment after I begin all bets are off, the story can and will evolve from there and become whatever it and the characters may make of it. Just as I can not argue that I am like most any writer, nor can I see any reason in trying to be. I see no need to be 'like' anything, why should my books be 'like' any other book, and I see no reason for 'my books' to be 'like' my other books. Why should the next book be what worked for the one before? Why should I worry if my readers will have the same choices as me as to what 'would have been interesting'?

Do not buy my books without trying them, but also do not buy them if you are going to be disappointed if you don't get what you are expect.. Be it a thrilling plot-twisted action film in print, or a heartfelt romance, my books will not be exactly one thing. I make no promises in my writing but it can also be said I do not fear to follow the chanced inspiration, even if it might re-write the entire unborn ending of a story.

Shiva Winters Once Upon Another World The title and the cover almost had me thinking 'fairy tale'. Once I dove in feet first it was more like Zelazny's Amber series and Farmers Tier series rolled together and given a special Shiva Winters touch. Raven Sinclar is a powerful character well matched by his counterpart LeShana, who is not only lovely but also as powerful and kick-ass as Raven. Suffice it to say, I loved this book, and there is only one reason I give it 4 stars instead of five. There are so many errors in spelling, grammar, and questionable usage of some words and missing words- sometimes extra words that just don't belong there. I can live with some of this in dialogue- no one speaks perfectly all the time. But it leaks heavily into the narrative portion and that gets me to believing that maybe those characters don't really speak that way either. This book is offered free, but as a representative of self publishing it could have used a bit of polish. (Another couple of pairs of eyes.)A number of people I know might toss this book down after the first 50 pages and that's their loss. One thing I disagree with other people about is that an editor could have pared it down some. I'm not a fan of muting the authors voice. An edit will help the spelling grammar and other but the author's work should stand unless the author decides some portions might not be necessary or should be reworked. I did not see anything that just jumped out at me and said I don't belong here. As it stands Once Upon Another World is a well packed novel with a fairly tight plot that has plenty of twists to keep the reader guessing. It also demonstrates some skill in world making that Shiva should be proud of. She has a writing style that I was comfortable with, though I'll need to read more of her work to see if the style changes as she becomes more polished. If this book ever goes to paper print copy I would suggest a strong look at some editing and a signed copy for me. Bravo! For an awesome first novel. J.L. Dobias Author of Cripple-Mode: Hot Electric

Was hard to follow at times. Read authors notes at end it will help.

Kept my interest. Swords, sorcery, fair fight scenes. Needs some editing. Obviously not an experienced author. Interesting plot line with a few twists.

I was amazed at how quickly I read this 800+ page book! The storyline moves quickly, twisting and turning. Some twist you see coming and some are a surprise. Great characters and a little humor thrown in. The book could use a good proof reader to fix the typos, spelling errors, and editing mistakes, but they didn't really detract from the story and certainly were not as bad as some other reviewers indicated. Although the consistent apostrophe added to "its" (third person possessive) did irritate me. I look forward to more of this author's work.

Ok book...but the bad grammer and spelling are really starting to wear on me. Ever heard of spell check/grammer check?
