One Buck Horror: Volume Two [NOOK Book]

Great Stuff!!!

Five little stories each month. Five stories, very different from each other, but all very entertaining. Some are creepy, some are though provoking, and some are even, dare I say it, funny! As fans, we, I, can sit and critique each and every story month after month, but that's not the point here; One Buck Horror is great and it's a lot of fun! I loved Volume 1, then I downloaded Volume 2 as soon as it was available, and read it "cover to cover" immediately, enjoying it immensely! I wanted to break out in song, "Is that all there is..." Now, I'm killing myself waiting for Volume 3 and the publisher is teasing us by posting the new cover on their FB page! It's intriguing...I can't wait!

We're looking at the beginnings of a classic.

I loved Volume One, and being a writer of horror myself, I felt a particular affection to the first volume with it's creature-based theme. In Volume Two, the stakes seem to be set even higher.

Here we have five tales filled with creepy, horrid twists and plots. They are wholly different than the first, and as such, a comparison cannot be given. However, the intensity seems to be amped up in this one. The cover seems to be related to the story, "Holes", although unintentionally. In this tale, which also happens to be my favorite, we are introduced to a new type of creature that gives as much as it takes. A new spin on drugs, you might say. "What Swims These Waters", and, "Beastie", also have a bit of a creature charm to them, but these are some particularly nasty one's, to be sure. "3 Monkeys", is a sad and demented tale with a nice hook, and "The Afterlife of Ellen Easterling", is charming and revolting.

This series is one to be watched. The authors in both of these volumes are to be applauded for their work. I definitely look forward to what Volume 3 will bring.

5 excellent monster stories!!!

I enjoyed One Buck Horror: Volume Two just as much as Volume One. Where Volume One seemed to have a children's theme running through the stories, Volume Two is all about monsters. There are slithery, squirmy masses of creatures yet unknown, as well as a couple of the human monster variety. All stories are well-written, quick reads great for break time at work or if you have several minutes to wait. I like that about One Buck Horror. The stories are short enough that I don't feel overwhelmed reading them on my Droid. And these are satisfying creepy tales! A couple of the stories hint at more adult themes, but these are handled well and never go overboard into modern gore and violence just to gross readers out. And I like how there are some modern situations spun into the style of good, old-fashioned horror stories. In fact, one of the stories that holds more of an adult theme is "Holes" by Sean Logan. I think "Holes" is my favorite of the 5 stories, where a brother goes on a search to save his sister from a drug dealer who is unlike any other drug dealer I've read about (unlike any other drug I should add). "Beastie" is my second favorite by David Bischoff. Beastie's a cat and while the cat does drag a present home for his owner, the owner gets dragged into a very creepy, unique freaky world. "What Swims These Waters" by Daniel Ausema reminded me of the squirmy things that live at the bottom of the sea and perhaps what some of the tinier varieties could potentially become with a few hefty mutations. I liked that the reader is left to wonder what the heck the creatures in this story are. "3 Monkeys" and "The Afterlife of Ellen Easterling" both deal with human killers, but with an interesting unique spin on those types of tales. This collection of five stories is worth much more than a dollar. You can't go wrong with it! Great job to all the authors of One Buck Horror!
