Meet the Author

Alison Kent was a born reader, but it wasn't until the age of thirty that she decided she wanted to be a writer when she grew up. Five years and a mental library of industry knowledge later, she had the most basic grasp of "how-to" and her first book in print.

Three years after that, she found a permanent home at Harlequin, accepting an invitation issued by the senior editor of the Temptation series, live on the "Isn't It Romantic?" episode of CBS 48 Hours.

That book, Call Me, was a Romantic Times finalist for Best First Series Book in 1996.

With her first three Temptations in print, she took a break from writing romance novels and spent a few months living one, finding her own hero and practicing every technique she'd learned from a lifetime of reading the best "how-to" manuals around! She now writes for both the Harlequin Blaze and Kensington Brava lines, and is a partner in Access Romance and DreamForge Media.

And the rest, as they say, is history. With the encouragement of her new master, er, husband, Alison is now back at work writing the stories she loves to read -- the fantasies that show readers the way love was meant to be. Alison lives in a Houston, Texas, suburb with her hero, four vagabond kids and a dog named Smith.

And she actually manages to write in the midst of all that madness. Readers can contact Alison through her web site at http://www.alisonkent.com.

Lori Borrill started writing in June of 2004 after her husband left his job to pursue his dream of owning a business. Not only did the move help ease their hectic schedules, but he became a solid example that those dreams that seem impossible can often come true.

She proved that point herself exactly two years later when Kathryn Lye called to tell her she'd sold to the Harlequin Blaze line.

Lori claims it was the eHarlequin.com community that prompted her to write her first novel. "After reading countless romances, I saw the Web address on a book and decided to check it out," she says. "At the time, I was just looking for writer's guidelines, but the moment I clicked into the Learn To Write forum, I was amazed by the volume of information available to aspiring writers. They really came across like they wanted me to try this."

Since then, she's been an active member of the eHarlequin.com community, finding all of her closest writing friends through the site. "What propelled me from novice to published author were the people I've met through the Harlequin boards," she says. "I've made some treasured friendships with talented authors who not only helped me hone the craft, but have become a system of support I can't imagine writing without."

An Oregon native, Lori moved to the San Francisco Bay Area just out of high school and has been a transplant Californian ever since. Her weekdays are spent at the insurance company where's she's been employed as a data analyst for over twenty years. The bulk of her evenings are spent at the Little League fields cheering on her ten-year-old son.

Award-winning author Kimberly Raye has always been an incurable romantic. While she enjoys reading all types of fiction, her favorites, the books that touch her soul, are romance novels. From sexy to thrilling, sweet to humorous, she likes them all. But what she really loves is writing romance - the hotter the better! She started her first novel back in high school and has been writing ever since. Kim lives deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country with her very own cowboy, Curt, and their young children. She's an avid reader (she reads all the Blaze books), loves Diet Dr. Pepper, chocolate, Toby Keith, chocolate, alpha males and chocolate. Kim also loves to hear from readers. Dawn knew she wanted to be an author since she put fat pencil to blue-lined paper. Though she always wanted to be a professional writer, she wasn't sure she had the "stuff" to become a published novelist. She graduated from college with a teaching degree and taught elementary school -- second and third grades (the best) -- and then began freelance feature writing for newspapers and magazines, local and national. Eventually she left teaching for public relations work. Today she's the writer/editor for the Arizona Education Association.

She met her husband, David, in 1980. They married in 1985, taking their Hobie catamaran to San Diego for their honeymoon.

Dawn published two stories in True Love magazine in the early '80s. Getting brave, she wrote a sexy romance, which was promptly rejected -- sniff. Busy with career changes, marriage, and having a child, she set aside her plans to write novels until 1996, when she dug out that rejected book and rewrote it. Two years later, she sold the first of two short romantic comedies to Kensington Publishing. Then in 2000 she began her career writing sensual and funny romances for the Harlequin Temptation and Duets lines, where she's happily crafting stories she loves.

Most of her hobbies -- sailing, scuba diving, and playing the piano (badly) -- are on hold now, as she devotes all her non-family spare time to writing.

She lives in the Phoenix area with her husband and 11-year-old son, who can't believe his own mother is a real, live author.

She lives to hear from fans. You can reach her at DaphneDawn@aol.com.

Nicknamed the dynamic duo, the husband-and-wife writing team of Lori and Tony Karayianni began writing together in 1984, a scant 10 months after they threw caution to the wind and shamelessly moved in together. Twisting the old adage "Life is stranger than fiction," they describe their lives as being "better than fiction."

While their backgrounds couldn't be more different--Tony was born near Olympia, Greece, and raised in Athens, while Lori is a Midwestern native of Toledo, Ohio--they credit their successful test run and love for each other for leading them to the altar in 1987, and point to their love for romance and travel for leading them to writing.

They take great pleasure in constantly redefining exactly what constitutes "and they lived happily ever after" in both their writing and their personal lives. In their books you'll see Tony's keen eye for plotting and hunger for adventure, and Lori's love for vivid characters and the fundamental ties that bind us all.

Under their pen name Tori Carrington, Lori and Tony hit the ground running with their first book for Harlequin Temptation, Constant Craving, in January 1999 and they show no sign of slowing anytime soon. Their own five book miniseries, The Magnificent McCoy Men, launched in July 1999 with License to Thrill, followed by the second book The P.I. Who Loves Her in March 2000. The third book in the series, For Her Eyes Only, hits stores in July 2000, while the fourth, You Only Love Once, is scheduled for release in March 2001. The miniseries wraps up with the final book, Never Say Never, in the Fall of 2001.

In addition to the rave reviews Lori and Tony regularly receive for their work, their first book, Constant Craving, was a finalist in the Best First Book category for the 1999 Golden Quill Award, and it along with License to Thrill have been given the nomination nod for Best First Book and Best Harlequin Temptation in the 1999 Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Awards. License to Thrill has also earned a finalist spot for Best Short Series Contemporary in the prestigious Holt Medallion Awards.

The writers point out that they'd be outrageously happy if this was all that was going on in their lives, but the truth is they have other news to share on both the personal and professional front. They're thrilled to report that they'll make their Silhouette Special Edition debut in November 2000 with their much-loved book, Just Eight Months Old..., and that Harlequin has signed them up to write not one but two books for the new Blaze series set to launch in 2001.

They also share that with these successes they'll finally be able to begin building their dream vacation home--on the little piece of heaven they own 35 kilometers north of Athens, Greece--hopefully sometime later this year. That is if they can find the time to oversee the arrangements!

Lori and Tony and their alter ego Tori Carrington would love to hear from you! Write them all at P.O. Box 12271, Toledo, OH 43612. Or visit them at their ever-changing web site at www.temptationauthors.com/tori where you can learn even more about them, their books, thumb through treasured photographs, and enter fun drawings!

Stephanie Bond was seven years deep into a computer career and pursuing a master's degree at night when an instructor remarked she had a flair for writing and encouraged her to submit to academic journals. Once the seed was planted, however, Stephanie immediately turned to creating romance fiction in her spare time.

"I never saw myself as a comedy writer, until a Harlequin editor asked if I could write comedy. I lied and said not only did I write comedy, but I had a great idea for a book she might be interested in, and shot her an idea from the top of my head. When she said she liked it, I told her I had three chapters finished to send her right away. Then I went home and wrote like a madwoman. That book was my first Harlequin comedy, Irresistible."

Harlequin purchased Irresistible from Stephanie in the fall of 1995 for their Love and Laughter line. In another two years, she left her computer career to write full-time. She now writes for the Harlequin Temptation and Harlequin Blaze lines, having gained notoriety for her spicy romantic comedies, such as Too Hot to Sleep and It Takes a Rebel.

Stephanie lives with her husband in Atlanta, Georgia, her laptop permanently attached to her body. Readers can write her at P.O. Box 54266, Atlanta, GA 30308, or through her web site.
