Meet the Author

Nicknamed the dynamic duo, the husband-and-wife writing team of Lori and Tony Karayianni began writing together in 1984, a scant 10 months after they threw caution to the wind and shamelessly moved in together. Twisting the old adage "Life is stranger than fiction," they describe their lives as being "better than fiction."

While their backgrounds couldn't be more different--Tony was born near Olympia, Greece, and raised in Athens, while Lori is a Midwestern native of Toledo, Ohio--they credit their successful test run and love for each other for leading them to the altar in 1987, and point to their love for romance and travel for leading them to writing.

They take great pleasure in constantly redefining exactly what constitutes "and they lived happily ever after" in both their writing and their personal lives. In their books you'll see Tony's keen eye for plotting and hunger for adventure, and Lori's love for vivid characters and the fundamental ties that bind us all.

Under their pen name Tori Carrington, Lori and Tony hit the ground running with their first book for Harlequin Temptation, Constant Craving, in January 1999 and they show no sign of slowing anytime soon. Their own five book miniseries, The Magnificent McCoy Men, launched in July 1999 with License to Thrill, followed by the second book The P.I. Who Loves Her in March 2000. The third book in the series, For Her Eyes Only, hits stores in July 2000, while the fourth, You Only Love Once, is scheduled for release in March 2001. The miniseries wraps up with the final book, Never Say Never, in the Fall of 2001.

In addition to the rave reviews Lori and Tony regularly receive for their work, their first book, Constant Craving, was a finalist in the Best First Book category for the 1999 Golden Quill Award, and it along with License to Thrill have been given the nomination nod for Best First Book and Best Harlequin Temptation in the 1999 Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Awards. License to Thrill has also earned a finalist spot for Best Short Series Contemporary in the prestigious Holt Medallion Awards.

The writers point out that they'd be outrageously happy if this was all that was going on in their lives, but the truth is they have other news to share on both the personal and professional front. They're thrilled to report that they'll make their Silhouette Special Edition debut in November 2000 with their much-loved book, Just Eight Months Old..., and that Harlequin has signed them up to write not one but two books for the new Blaze series set to launch in 2001.

They also share that with these successes they'll finally be able to begin building their dream vacation home--on the little piece of heaven they own 35 kilometers north of Athens, Greece--hopefully sometime later this year. That is if they can find the time to oversee the arrangements!

Lori and Tony and their alter ego Tori Carrington would love to hear from you! Write them all at P.O. Box 12271, Toledo, OH 43612. Or visit them at their ever-changing web site at www.temptationauthors.com/tori where you can learn even more about them, their books, thumb through treasured photographs, and enter fun drawings!

Lori Borrill started writing in June of 2004 after her husband left his job to pursue his dream of owning a business. Not only did the move help ease their hectic schedules, but he became a solid example that those dreams that seem impossible can often come true.

She proved that point herself exactly two years later when Kathryn Lye called to tell her she'd sold to the Harlequin Blaze line.

Lori claims it was the eHarlequin.com community that prompted her to write her first novel. "After reading countless romances, I saw the Web address on a book and decided to check it out," she says. "At the time, I was just looking for writer's guidelines, but the moment I clicked into the Learn To Write forum, I was amazed by the volume of information available to aspiring writers. They really came across like they wanted me to try this."

Since then, she's been an active member of the eHarlequin.com community, finding all of her closest writing friends through the site. "What propelled me from novice to published author were the people I've met through the Harlequin boards," she says. "I've made some treasured friendships with talented authors who not only helped me hone the craft, but have become a system of support I can't imagine writing without."

An Oregon native, Lori moved to the San Francisco Bay Area just out of high school and has been a transplant Californian ever since. Her weekdays are spent at the insurance company where's she's been employed as a data analyst for over twenty years. The bulk of her evenings are spent at the Little League fields cheering on her ten-year-old son.

For more information about Lori's upcoming projects, please visit her Web site at www.LoriBorrill.com.

Kathleen wrote her first romance at the age of 11, which to her undying embarrassment, was read aloud to her class. After taking over 20 years to recover from the profound distress, she is now proud to announce her new career--romance author.

Kathleen lives in Austin, Texas with her husband and their two children, who outwit her daily. She loves to hear from readers. They can contact her at www.kathleenoreilly.com.

Bestselling Harlequin author Joanne Rock writes sexy contemporary romances and medieval historicals that have been reprinted in 22 countries and translated into 16 languages. A Golden Heart winner and RITA nominated author, Joanne has been recognized with numerous writing awards including a Blue Boa, a Beacon and a Romantic Times W.I.S.H. Award. A former college teacher and public relations coordinator, she has a master's in English from the University of Louisville and started writing when she became a stay-at-home mom, deceiving herself that she'd have more time. 20 books and three kids later, she lives with her husband and sons in the Adirondacks, committed to mass chaos and happily-ever-afters. Jill Shalvis writes from her home near Lake Tahoe. She is assisted by her husband (who can't go three minutes without wanting to tell her something), three young children (who can't go one minute without wanting to tell her something), a chicken masquerading as a dog, three hamsters, a million squirrels and the occasional wolf spider.

If she's not writing, she's shoveling snow, skiing, or coloring with her kids.

You can write to her at P.O. Box 3945, Truckee, CA, 96161. Or you can visit her website at www.jillshalvis.com.

Kate began reading romance in 1979 when she picked up a copy of Kathleen Woodiwiss's Ashes in the Wind. She read the book from cover to cover in one very long night and was immediately hooked on the genre.

The next morning, she was standing at the door to her local Waldenbooks and when they opened, she hurried inside and asked for everything else written by Woodiwiss. At the same time, she found wonderful books by Rosemary Rogers, Laurie McBain, and Jennifer Blake.

Nearly 10 years later, while working as an advertising copywriter, Kate decided to try writing a romance of her own. After a history of interesting jobs in teaching, retailing, advertising, and nonprofit work, she was determined to add romance author to that list.

After numerous failed attempts over three years, Kate decided to forget writing historical romance and turned to category romance. Six months later, her first story, A Vagabond Heart, was finished. A year later, Harlequin bought the book after Kate won the national 1992 Harlequin Temptation contest. The book was published in 1993 as Indecent Exposure.

Her dream of adding romance writer to her resume came true and in December of 1993 she turned off her alarm clock, shredded her pantyhose, and became a full-time writer.

Since then, Kate has written numerous books for Temptation, Weddings by DeWilde, Harlequin anthologies, Love and Laughter, and Duets. Her new Duet, Three Babies and a Bargain (July 2000) will be her 24th project for Harlequin and All Through the Night (August 2000), a Temptation Blaze, will mark her 25th.

Kate lives in southeastern Wisconsin in a cozy little house in a picturesque village. Two cats also live with her--Tansing, a grumpy Himalayan, and Tibriz, a tortie Persian mix that she rescued from an animal shelter. She enjoys gardening, golf, reading, and romantic movies.
