Along with Joe Ely and Butch Hancock, Jimmie Dale Gilmore was one of the trio of Texas outlaw country stars who began as the Elatlanders over 35 years ago. He is less mainstream than Ely but less quirky than Hancock.This album finds him working with the great guitarist-producer Buddy Miller and enlisting many othr notable musicians. He sings his own songs and a couple by Hancock and covers songs from artists as diverse as the Grateful Dead, Townes Van Zandt, and Bobby Darin. His voice and the backing band give the whole album a dusty Southwest ambience. A few years ago I saw Gilmore in concert under the stars at Upper Merion, PA. He came over the same way he does on the CD, friendly and without pretense.

This is an awesome cd. Free of the commercial trappings that ruin most music. It is a man a guitar and his words. Don't miss this one.

Possibly his best album. The title track is great, but my favorite is ''Your Love is My Rest''. Beautiful, haunting melody, with memorable lyrics. I'm going from memory, but one of my favorite lines goes something like ''I stare at the land of Custer's Last Stand and I grin, So this is where old Yellow Hair's ghost dance begins''. Probably my favorite album of that year (1999?) in any genre. And his live concerts are awesome!
