One for the Kids [Bonus Track]by Yellowcard
The reissue of Florida punk-pop unit Yellowcard's 2001 Lobster debut, One for the Kids, certainly piggybacks on the exposure gained from the band's summer 2003 bow for Capitol. That said, if new (or old) fans liked Ocean Avenue, they'll likely love One for the Kids, especially in this updated version that includes the acoustic track "Rough Draft" and a load of previously unseen video footage. Musically, Kids plays like a rough draft for Ocean. Its edges are grittier, undulled by the production sheen that somewhat marred the Capitol effort. Highlights include "Rock Star Land" ("Christmas break of '98 just flipped me upside down"), the rousing opener "Struck," and the many moments that got them signed to the big time in the first place, when harmonies, Sean Mackin's fabulous violin, or sudden acoustic moments carry the band's crunchy punk revivalism past convetion and toward reinvention.

ok you guys listen up! you truly dont know what you are missing out on if you dont own this cd! i am totally obbsessed with yellowcard they are one of the best bands around their mix sound of pop-PUNK-indie rock is one of a kind. i just saw these guys play live (they opened for less than jake) and they were unbelievable. you have to check them out. their music is up beat, emotional, and clever you can totally relate the every song. also one of the reason that make them so unique is the fact that they arent just another one of those dime-a-dozen punk bands like there seem to be so many of these days, they totally stand out with their punk music that is laced with electric violin! (you should have seem how awesome the violinist was, fully rocking out on stage and still stringing the bow, haha it was awesome) so do the right thing and add yellowcard to your cd collection! PS songs to checkout: ''october sky'' ''rocket'' ''avondale'' ''driftin'' ''sureshot'' ''for pete's sake'' and ''rock star land''
Let me start this review by saying that until the day before I ordered One for the Kids, I had never in my life heard of the band Yellowcard. I just happened to stumble upon one of their mp3s (''October Nights'') and instantly fell in love with the band. I then found their website and promptly ordered a CD (it was, after all, only $10). They started shipping them to preorderers March 20. Not expecting much, I listened to One for the Kids. The album is simply incredible. The harmonic vocals are sweet and tight, the two part guitar plus bass enthralling, and the violin melodies breathtaking. The songwriting is so diverse and original; no two sound the same. The songs range from Saves the Day-esque harder, melodic punk to gentler acoustic/string masterpieces, and then a little of both. The violin and string section add incredible dynamics; the original young punk band is worthy of infinite praise for such a move. The standouts are ''Sureshot,'' ''October Nights,'' ''Rockstar Land,'' ''For Pete's Sake,'' and ''Drifting.'' I can honestly say that I have never listened to a CD steadily for as long a time as I have Yellowcard. It never gets old. So buy One for the Kids, and be prepared to sing out loud in between tears and laughter. It is simply beautiful.
Yellowcard is an awesome band i just started listening to about a month ago. I am hooked on their punk-rock-indie mix and that added electric violin makes them an original masterpiece. The song Powder is badass.
yellowcard is one of my fav bands. When i heard them on the vans warped tour 2003,i went out and bout their album. it rules.
