All Music Guide - Johnny Loftus
The reissue of Florida punk-pop unit Yellowcard's 2001 Lobster debut, One for the Kids, certainly piggybacks on the exposure gained from the band's summer 2003 bow for Capitol. That said, if new or old fans liked Ocean Avenue, they'll likely love One for the Kids, especially in this updated version that includes the acoustic track "Rough Draft" and a load of previously unseen video footage. Musically, Kids plays like a rough draft for Ocean. Its edges are grittier, undulled by the production sheen that somewhat marred the Capitol effort. Outstanding Album -- A Must-have for Any Collection!

One for the Kids rock! The CD starts off with a couple of really energetic songs, Star Struck and Drifting. Because there are both calming and rocking songs, it is a really good mix that swings you back and forth like a pendulum. Yellowcard is more positive than some bands. Their lyrics are all full of meaning. Each song has something to do with their lives, and that's sweet. I really like this CD, especially Rock Star Land. I'm not sure why, but I find the tune catchy along with their other songs. I can't really explain this in words. You need to hear it for yourself. :)

    Number One

One of the greatest groups ever. I happen to be a violinist, and this is one of the best groups. Puts a signature to Emo.

This is One CD for All the Kids to Buy!

I highly recommend to everyone to buy "One For the Kids" who listens to music for what it is. Their unique violin chords, combined with lead singer Ryan's amazing vocals make Yellowcard a must-know and must-have. In contrast with their latest, and greatest, cd "Ocean Avenue", "One for the Kids" provides upbeat songs to just rock out in your car, along with some melodic tunes to set the mood. My advice: Buy it, Love it, Share it! Save_Ted24

    More Acoustic

One For the Kids is, to me, the best Yellowcard CD. It is a little more hard core rock than their newer album(ocean avenue). It has some acoustic songs which to me is awesome b/c acoustic is more inspiring for songwriters. This album was great I would suggest it to anyone!

this album really grows on you

Like most people, I started out listening to yellowcard's most recent album, "Ocean Avenue." I loved them so much I went searching for everything I could find that they had done. At first this album was a little too unpolished for my mainstream ears, but after leaving it in my car CD player for a while I got really attached to it. My favorite tracks are "Rough Draft" and "October Nights," but I also really like "Sureshot" and "Cigarette." You'll often hear "October Nights" and "Sureshot" at their live shows, but if you spend any time on their message boards you'll find that "Rough Draft" seems to be most people's favorite song (out of everything, not just this album!). Definitely worth checking out!

    AWESOME!

If you are a punk lover you will love this CD. Yellowcard (YC) is a very talented band with a unique sound. The electric violin gives YC it's signature sound. All the songs on this CD are enjoyable. My fave's star struck, sure shot, october nights, and for pete's sake. However they are all good! I love YC! You will not be disappointed with this CD.

One for the Kids is a keeper

Yellowcard definitely makes a name for themselves with their first CD, "One for the Kids" starting off with a driving song that pulls the listener in and provokes him to continue listening to the rest of the CD. Overrall, the songs are heartfelt and full of energy making it catchy and enjoyable. The gem of the CD is "October Nights" with Ryan's powerful vocals and beautiful guitarwork, illustrating the point of this review...that Yellowcard is different from other bands and makes a wonderful first CD.

    GOOD STUFF!

Alright everyone here's the 411 on "One for the Kids." The song-writing in this band is amazing. Their lyrics are like poetry that makes you have an eargasm. This is truly an outstanding album. The violin sets this band apart from all others. They are truly original.

    BEST. BAND. EVER.

One For The Kids is Yellowcard's first album with Ryan Key as lead singer. Ben Harper's beautiful guitar riffs, Ryan Key's lovely lyrics and pretty voice acompanied by Sean Mackin's classicly trained violin make one of the best albums that yellowcard has made in their 7 year career. OFTK is kicked off with the song Star Struck. My favorite song on OFTK is Rough Draft-a beautiful acoustic ballad about a hard breakup "kill me while i still believe that you were meant for me" is one of the most memorable lyrics. I would recomend One For The Kids to anyone that enjoys emo, and pop-punk.

    If You Like "Ocean Avenue"...

If you liked "Ocean Avenue" by Yellowcard, you're sure to like "One For The Kids". This is a great CD with catchy songs, violin, and more of the Yellowcard that you like. Good as an intro to OA, and something every good punk rock collection should have. *Written By Meghan, yellowcardchica01

Awesome Music, so do not miss out!

A talent-infused band, young and fresh new faces is exactly what the music industry needs and is exactly what Yellowcard provides. Their songs are tinged with a sort of honesty to the human condition that is so cleverly harboured within their lyrics by lead vocalist, Ryan Key. Certain songs such as Star Struck, October Nights, and Big Apple Heartbreak completely deserve some special recognition. What is also praise-worthy of this band is their ability to incorporate the violin into their music without making it sound out of place. In fact, it is the exact opposite effect that the violin brings, making their songs more catchy and unbelievable than ever heard before! So, the conclusion is, go out and grab it because it'll be one of the most beneficial investments that you'll ever make! And if you've already got it, i commemorate you!

They steal all of your thoughts about love and make them better!!!!

This album is great!!!! They have a lot of love songs and that's good. Just like in for Pete's Sake: " There's just so much I would like to say to you, silence I keep." Listen to it and you'll be stuck on them

    Yellowcard's Best Album by far

WIth songs like Star Struck, October Nights, and Sureshot, this album prevails over all others of its genre. Sean Makin's violin also adds a unique twist to this great CD. It would be a great buy for anyone into the Pop-Punk/Emo scene.
