Plimpton provided awesome insight into what the moment was really like...the most historic event in the history of baseball. Many funny stories, regarding the plights Aaron's teammates, competitors and bosses were going through (tornadoes, difficult telephone operators, etc.) as they anticipated and reacted to the ineveitable moment. Perhaps my favorite "pure baseball" book ever! I have owned it since 1975 as a 9 year old and cherish it. It's not deep-if you don't want it to be- its "up-front", but very informative if you wish to learn what events surrounded this moment and what it was actually like at the time.
