Overview

Accused child molester Charles Raymond Whitehead is released from prison by a misguided judge. After his release, another child goes missing from a tight-knit ethnic neighborhood and Detective Steve McKenna suspects Whitehead for the disappearance.  McKenna also suspects some locals may take matters into their own hands.  The cop is right on both counts . . . but can he prove it?
Dan Madigan, a childhood friend of McKenna’s, is upset at Whitehead’s early release and enraged by what he’s sure must be another Whitehead victim. Dan hatches a scheme to even the score.  What drives a man to rescue someone he has no connection to and seek vengeance against a criminal he’s never met?  Even his best friends aren’t sure, but they go along anyway hoping to stop him before it’s too late.
As events unfold, the pieces start to fall into place for Detective McKenna . . . and he doesn’t like what he sees. Fighting a conflict between friendship and duty, he continues the hunt, both pissing-off and terrifying his old friends as he closes in.  In the end, McKenna may have the evidence he needs to put his prey behind bars.  The question is . . . will he use it?

As good as anything by Lee Child. Absolutley outstanding, great atmosphere and powerful storyline- WHEN IS THE NEXT ONE OUT Tony Dibona

After spending some time in Rhode Island recently I read this excellent book by Tony DiBona. The atmosphere created by the author captures the area very well. The story line although a little harrowing at times is set at a great pace with some real heart flipping moments as the guys get closer to Whitehead, not saying anything more on that; but the suspense could grace any big screen production. The charecters are well represented and have an intimacy that the author must have taken from some of his own experience. Hopefully Tony has more experiences to share with us in his next book.

    Bravo.

    Couldn't put it down.

Full disclosure here - I'm a friend of Tony's. To put things into perspective, I haven't read a full book since high school (20+ years ago). But I figured I'd give it a try. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop. I thought "One Long Night" was amazing. At times, my heart was pounding wondering what would happen next. Do yourself a favor and download this book. Congrats Tony!

    A simply great read...

DiBona is a gifted writer who does an oustanding job of creating the perfect atmosphere to pull the reader into the world of One Long Night. His descriptions of the MA/RI area are excellent and he does a great job of using the Boston/Cambridge/Providence setting as his canvas.

The characterizations are classic working class Boston. If you love the characters developed for The Departed, The Town or even Good Will Hunting - you will identify with the One Long Night characters immediately.

The story has a great pace with the right balance of humor and suspense. The reader will be sucked in right from the get go and it will be hard to put this book down.

Hats off to Mr. DiBona. I look forward to your next novel and seeing One Long Night adapted to the big screen.

Exciting, fast-paced read. I couldn't put it down!

This new author has it! This book is a must read for people who like to be grabbed by the first chapter. It begins with a strong story line and doesn't let up through the entire book. The strong references to the Southern New England area are so well-explained that you feel like you are there. I want book #2.
