Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
PreS-Four concept books from the publishing house of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Made by God contains 15 nouns, such as "Cat," "Dog," "Fish," "Tree," and "World." Each object is identified by a tag attached to it with a string. The end page has a mirror with the caption: "Me! Made by God." Written in rhyme, One Lost Sheep describes sheep from 1 to 10 reading, sleeping, praying, and weeping while waiting for the lost one to be found. Rainbow Party introduces the colors blue, green, yellow, and red. The final spread includes objects from the previous pages showing a group of ethnically mixed children at a birthday celebration: "Rainbow colors our God sends- Different colors./Different friends." "Sweep," "wash," "read [a Bible]," "pray," and "fix" are a few of the verbs introduced in Things I Do. In all four books, the watercolor illustrations contain plenty of pastel color but like the texts they are one-dimensional and uninteresting.-Olga R.
