    A dekightful Regency novel

Anyone who meets Lady Charlotte Chatsworth assumes she has frozen tundra for a heart as she comes across as unfeeling colder than the polar caps. Her father owes a major gambling debt so he offers Charlotte to the highest bidder. She does not argue with her reprobate father because if she does not acquiesce, her sister Emily will be next on the auction block.

Gambling parlor owner Roman Merrick detests Chatsworth as a worm who refuses to accept responsibility for his actions and vices. Roman is attracted to Charlotte so he accepts her father's offer of a night with Charlotte for his vouchers. Roman and Charlotte spend the evening playing chess while she knows she wants him but she needs to marry up not down.

Although the theme of betting a female loved one as a stake has been done frequently in historical romances (see The Seduction by Julia Ross), Anne Mallory provides a fresh regency romance due to the strong cast especially the lead couple. Charlotte is a strong person sacrificing her virtue and a good match to protect her sister from her wastrel father; although she knows her efforts may prove temporary as dearest dad is a gambling addict. Roman is everything she should loathe in a man until she sees how kind and caring he is. Readers will enjoy their chess match including Trant, another suitor of sorts.

    A must-read!

This is a story about Roman Merrick, lord of London's underworld, and Charlotte Chatsworth, darling beauty of the Ton. Roman becomes smitten with Charlotte after seeing her in town. After "winning" Charlotte in a card game w/ her father, Roman begins to spend more time with her. Despite their differences, the two of them become closer. They both know there are dangers if they get too deeply involved, yet...well, I'll let you figure out the rest on your own. Just a little warning (and I do mean little); as you may read in other reviews, there is a bit too much "internal dialogue" if you will. This book probably could've been written with maybe 20 fewer pages, if the extra wording were taken out. Still, all in all, a good read. I can't wait to read the follow up.

    Loved it...especially the cleverness

It lacked all the flowery language that's so unrealistic in today's world...I read it in a day!

A GREAT READ!A TWIST ON HISTORICAL ROMANCE!LOWER CLASS MEETS UPPER CLASS! ONE NIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH BY ANNE MALLORY!!

ONE NIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH by Anne Mallory is a delightful historical romance set in Regency England. This story of love, romance, sweet sensuality, finding the courage to follow your dreams and family betrayal. The characters are interesting, with witty banter, and intriguing. The hero is sexy, dangerous,to follow anywhere kind of guy, with deep ties to the back side of town, and is a really great guy. The heroine,is beautiful, sexy, courageous in more ways than one. She is determined to give her younger sister a chance in society without scandal attached. Her father will not win any father of the year rewards. Her mother has go into herself and could care less about her daugthers futures.I would suggest if you are looking for a different take on historical romance with a little twist than this would be one to look into getting. It has lower class meeting upper class and follow their hearts instead of what society expects them to follow. This was a great, page turning story from beginning to end. This book was received for the purpose of review from Net Galley and details can be found at Avon,an imprint of Harper Collins and My Book Addiction and More.

    A special and excellent read

A chess game of a romance. Brilliant dialogue. Delicious emotional and sensuous tightwire. This was a slow but very enjoyable read. I look forward to more books by the author.

    boring

This book was absolutely boring. I only forced myself to finish it because I paid for it. The story is slow moving and the main characters are uninteresting. I wouldn't waste my money if I were you.

    unsatisfied

I felt confused throughout this book. Definitely had a side story going on that was not divulged to the readers but kept us reading on in hope that light would be shined upon it, but nothing. I rarely find a book that makes me feel that I actually have to write a review because I was so unsatisfied.

    Not worth your money

This book took forever to get through. The conversations between characters were confusing, the plot was slow, and the action happened behind the story where you never really got involved. All in all a disappointing read.

    Awkward dialog.

Good story but the attempt to be too clever in the wording makes this a difficult read.
