Meet the Author

Jodi Ellen Malpas was born and raised in the Midlands town of Northampton, UK, where she lives with her family. Working for the family construction business fulltime and with the prospect of taking it over once her father retired, she tried to ignore the lingering idea of writing a novel until it became impossible. She finally found the time and courage to release her creative streak and in October 2012 self-published This Man as an e-book. She took a chance on a story with some intense characters, notably Mr. Jesse Ward, the Lord of the Manor, and sparked incredible reactions from women all over the world. Two months later, Jodi made the decision to give up her day job to concentrate on her new and very unexpected career in writing.

3.5 Stars Reviewed by Angela and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog After finishing Promised earlier this year, Denied became one of my highly anticipated books. Promised had mystery, hot romance and it had one hell of an ending that left me needing more. Denied have more mystery, angst and steam factor. Denied takes off shortly after Promised had ended. Olivia had decided she is done with Miller and plans to stay away from him. However, Olivia fascinates Miller and he is not easily dumped. He will not give up until he wins her back. I thought that was romantic.  Of course, Miller is not any other guy.  He is a professional and he can go over the top. Denied also revealed a lot of the mystery from the last book. Readers will know more about Miller and Olivia’s past as well as William’s story. We find out who he really is to Olivia and where their relationship will go.  From how the last book ended, it’s not what I expected at all. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the last. I think the anticipation and expectation was a bit too high that the book just didn’t deliver. There were a few things that bothered me. Firsts, Nan was too passive for my liking. I saw her persona as a loving yet straight to the point type of granny but I didn’t agree with a lot of her decisions. Second, the angst between Miller and Olivia was a bit much. They both work so hard to get together and work equally hard to hurt each other. There was too much pulling and tugging of feelings and decisions that it became a contradiction at times. Last is Miller’s habit of going to Olivia’s room without anyone detecting him. It was weird and too stalker-ish if you ask me. Denied is intriguing; either you will love it or simply not  at all. *ARC provided by publisher

3.5 "Not my Thing"Stars The is the second book in Malpas' One Night series. This book continues on shortly after the completion of the first book. Olivia has recently been heartbroken by Miller. Miller struggles with wanting Olivia despite knowing he is not good for her. Being only the second book I was not surprised that we don't get significant resolution, but I was hoping we would get more from the elusive and secretive Miller. I found myself needing to read and then reread a chapter in the beginning because I seriously did not get what happened. One moment Olivia is leaving Miller for good and the next they are someplace else completely and she is deciding that she will never be able to leave him. I seriously am hoping that something was missing. I was fortunate to receive this book as an ARC so it is possible that a chapter was inadvertently left out. Coupling that with the constant craziness of everyone being against them, Miller never really being forthright with Livy and her being completely spineless at times really bothered me. I hated how Miller never really explained what was happening to Livy. If she was going to be in so much danger why couldn't he just tell her what was going on once he committed to her. Miller's actions completely confused me. He couldn't expose her to "them" but he could be out and about on picnics, stores, her shop and worst at her home. Livy really was not any better. Her friend from the coffee shop is pretty much MIA from this whole book as was Livy actually working at her job. Gregory finds his way in to the story a few times and only adds to the conflict. Honestly didn't mind that part as it highlighted Miller's possessiveness of Livy and I do tend to like that over the top alpha behavior.  I feel a little bad because I seem to be bashing this book. I just found myself coasting through it and it really didn't pick up much until the last 20 percent. During that time we did get to see a nice transformation taking place in Miller and he did start to open up and was less OCD. Livy didn't have any dramatic transformations though and if anything she became more of a pushover as time went on. Seriously, if there was one more episode where she couldn't move her feet even if she tried, I was gonna lose it. I literally wanted to slap her. The book ends with a tiny cliffhanger and more of a HFN. Obviously still have many questions and due to my love for Malpas' This Man series I will read on. Unfortunately another few months will go by before we get the conclusion to this story and I hope it will end as great as Jesse and Eva's story did. Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Miller and Olivia are trying to stay apart. With the way book 1 ended I wondered how they would get back together. The pain and anguish they both go through, why do they fight so much to be together? Just about everyone wants them apart, they will fight anyone that interferes. And with that ending, I can't wait to start book 3.

As Miller would say, "I have a request." More, please! ~ I loved that there was more of Livy and Miller goodness to dive back into. I just couldn't get enough of their quirky drama. What was one of the most memorable moments of Denied? Nan’s bump and grind conversations with first Livy and then the 2nd one later with Livy, George and Gregory were hysterically funny. Nan really is a '24-karat gold treasure' as Miller calls her.  If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be? “I don’t want other women to taste you.” Favorite scene – one of too many to choose from: “What are you up to?” he asks, blatantly restraining his lips from tipping farther. I pout a little on a tiny shrug. “Nothing.” “I beg to differ.” On a little grin, I sink my nails into the solid flesh of his bum. His brow furrows. “That’s from Nan.” “Pardon!” He coughs, pushing up onto his forearms. I’m really grinning now. “She said to give your buns a little squeeze.” My nails dig in again, and Miller chokes on a laugh. A proper laugh. His dimple is deep on his cheek and my smile falls away in an instant as I watch his head drop, his hair flopping forward and his shoulders jumping up. I went right into reading to Unvelied (One Night #3) as soon as I finished Denied. I will definitely read the entire series via audiobook format again in the future, probably before the year is out.

After the gut wrenching ending of the first book - the continuation of Miller & Livy's story once again made me feel the unconditional love they have for one another. Acceptance of flaws and mistakes, overcoming the powers that work against them and astounding sexual and erotic scenes made me stop to reread. I will not reference specifics as I hate spoilers. I fell in love with Miller Hart in this book even more. The cliffhanger at the end was shocking and one I did not see coming. It will be incredible to see how Malpas addressees all the twists and turns in the final book.

Wow, can Miller redeem himself after the shocker at the end of book 1? Will Livy be willing to let him try? Secrets and lies are so hard to recover from but the sparks and connection between Miller and Livy is very powerful. This is an amazing journey for these two kindred spirits. The true depth of the world that Miller functions in is revealed, can Livy accept it? Will Miller find a way to break free? Oh, and let's just say that the sexual chemistry is off the charts. I also adore all of Miller's OCD tendencies.

This is even more captivating than the first. I did not really understand livy's character at the start of the first book & a decision she made as a teenager. But this second book draws the reader deeper into the lives of livy, m, & the people who love & care about them. This is more than a run of the mill steamy story between two people. Yes, there is a lot of detailed sex scenes, but it is also truly romantic, caring, full of nail biting suspense. I think it only natural that the emotions & decisions that liv & m made about each other would swing back & forth considering the darkness that surrounded both of them in the past & present. My stomach & fists clenched thru out most of this book as it was an emotional roller coaster & ends leaving you anxious for the finale!
