All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Katy Perry distills every reprehensible thing about the age of The Hills into one pop album. She disses her boyfriend with gay-baiting; she makes out with a girl and she doesn't even like girls; she brags to a suitor that he can't afford her, parties till she's face-down in the porcelain, drops brands as if they were weapons, curses casually, and trades under-the-table favors. In short, she's styled herself as a Montag monster. Perry is not untalented -- she writes like an ungarbled Alanis and has an eye for details -- but that only accentuates how her vile wild-child persona is an artifice designed to get her the stardom she ...

You Know You Want To Listen

With humorous tracks like Ur So Gay, I Kissed A Girl, and Waking Up In Vegas, you'll find yourself replaying these hits and singing along in no time. Thinking Of You is a song that will make you feel like you have just ripped your heart out, where as One Of The Boys will have you relating to the lyrics. Her music is infectious and real, so just go and get a copy of the CD already.

    A reviewer

All I have to say is wow. Katy Perry truly is the definition of girl power. You can tell she couldn't care what anyone thinks, from "I Kissed A Girl" to "Ur So Gay". Her uniqueness and rebelliousness can be heard on her CD, "One of the Boys", with a cool techno, rock, pop feel going on. Recommended, yes, but if you're narrow-minded, find another CD dude!

    Good album

When I heard katy perrys song on the radio "Hot N Cold" I really wanted to get this album to see what it would be like. I think that katy perry made a good album with fun songs to dance and sing and listen to.
I like the song one of the boys, I kissed a girl is not such a girl song, it should be I kissed a boy, waking up in vegas is one of my favorites, I really like the song thinking of you, that is a good song with a good meaning, mannequin is a good song too! ur so gay I didn't care for because the meaning of the song was bad, hot n cold I would have to say is one of my favorites too, if you can afford me is a cool song! I like self inflicted, and finger prints, the only thing I didn't like about this album is the cuss words are used a lot but over all katy perry did a good job! :-)

    I Also Recommend:

    great music, Very original.

I Like Katy Perry because i heard her songs while i was driving to work. While I was at work It's one of those songs that I find myself singing out loud to without realizing it. Or at the traffic light with all the windows down and jamming out to it. literally. I chose to get this on Vinyl L.P. though because not only do I collect vinyl records but there is a noticeable difference in the sound. It's far more superior than it is on C.D. or M.P.3. On vinyl the tones are higher and the bass is lower and warmer and richer. Like you are right there Live in concert with her. it's awesome. Plus you get bonus material and the vinyls different colored.

    more from this reviewer

    I Also Recommend:

    Bubble Gum

Katy Perry's "One of the Boys" is primarily a fun CD with good poppy beats, but also has a few, somewhat more profound tracks. I would mostly describe the CD as fun, but "Thinking of You" and a few other tracks are surprisingly tender.

    ¿ It.

I've only heard Hot 'N Cold and I Kissed a Girl, which is why im only givig it a 4-star rating, but i love both of those songs and i think the rest of the album will be as ah-mazing as her top singles, which is why im even giving it a 4 instead of just a 2 for the 2 songs ive only heard. <BR/>rock on, katy!!! :)

    This girls amazes!

Katy Perry is the best! news flash to moms your kids are experimenting at their friends houses without yuou knowing. girls kiss girls all the time and do a little more, yes straight girls.you may not know your kids very well... i go to my friends houses for just a regular sleepover and what, it turns into a love fest at which point i left and i never went again. These girls have boyfriends but they experiment and obviously katy perry was once one of those girls! I love her though, i'm glad someone is fiall revealing the dark truth behind girls and parties and what really happens! Way to go chick, rock on! Also, she has meaningful lyrics. and shes a rebel &amp amp she is different, thats rare these days:&quot

    Outstandingly Entertaining

This album just takes one listen to love. I took a chance on another one hit wonder, and it turns out that I fell in love with her! A daughter of two preachers CAN do something productive with her life! The whole album is simply put: entertainingly awesome. It starts out with a track called 'just one of the boys' (of which I can relate to tremedously) and just gets better from there with the hit track 'I kissed a girl' and so on.

    wicked sweet

Katy Perry, as opposed to every other f-ing thing kids listen to these days, is unique, original, talented, and unafraid to be who she is. I love her music. To all of you sheltered, conservative, intolerant, braindead, homophobes, who think her music is trashy or dirty- all i have to say is, get a clue.

Katy Perry has the chance of being the next major rock pop star

I agree with many other reviewers, Katy Perry is being overly-judged. Although she has many cursing words in her songs, how can you go against that? It's part of human nature to cuss without knowing it. Katy Perry's single, &quot I Kissed A Girl&quot might seem inappropriate to some people, but I truly think it shows how determined this new rock pop star is to be a big hit. She shows her wild side in all of her tracks and she also has a sense of humor in her lyrics. She shows that she won't let anyone put her down all because she sings, &quot I kissed a girl, and I liked it, I liked it&quot . I, personally, find artists and celebrities who are a mature wild silly and will have actions outside of the box the best. But you can't compare Katy Perry to heiress, Paris Hilton or Britney Spears. She's more mature than that, and I believe she knows how far she can go. I rate her album, &quot One of The Boys&quot as a 4-star recommended because the lyrics are good, but not the best. She can continuously repeat the same thing over and over in her songs but she has a great, powerful voice that can hardly get on your nerves, and her songs are full of meaning even, &quot Ur So Gay&quot .

    Ok

I thought this CD was horrible. The lyrics are trashy and encourage things that shouldn't be and has horrible taste!! I recommend that you do not buy this CD it is a waste of money!

    Also a Mom

Great CD. Some fun stuff on it. It is not the job of an artist to be our children's role model. If you have to explain to a teenager that there are people who like people of the same sex I'd say you have bigger issues to worry about, like moving out from under that rock. If she asks if she should like girls instead of boys perhaps the only answer you should have given her is: I'll love you no matter who you love!

    Fun CD

I've heard people commenting that this is not a good influence on younger listeners. To be fair neither is Disturbed or Brittany Spears......That is why they are played on pop stations that don't pander to young ones like the Disney station does. There is no comparison from Katy Perry to Hannah Montana, just like there is no comparison between Barney and Madonna, totally different groups that they are aimed at. Now I'm not saying that a child that is enjoying Aly and AJ would also enjoy Barney (even Barney would be too immature) but you have to keep in mind that these songs aren't aimed at children. If you are worried about influence worry about Barbie dolls or Miley Cyrus posing bare-backed at the age of 15 (ok, I don't see a huge deal with that, but many parents do) Bottom line- this CD is fun, enjoyable and well worth the purchase price. Great music to pop on and clean to or drive around town.

Katy Perry is truly talented, and this is worth every penny. I'd heard all the songs before but I bought it anyway. It's still good. =]
