Overview

WARNING: Mature themes, strong language, and sexual content. Recommended for adult readers (18+) only.

One scar.
One betrayal.
No escape.

When Sloan Reynolds beats criminal charges, Melissa Jones stops believing her wealthy, connected ex-husband will ever pay for what he did to her.

Derek Alexander can’t accept that—a tiny silver scar won't let him forget, and as a leader in the security business, he is determined to get the man who hurt his fiancée.

Then the body of a former call girl turns up dead. She’s the breakthrough Derek’s been waiting for, the link to Sloan’s sordid past he needs. But as usual, legal paths to justice have been covered up or erased.

Derek’s ready to do whatever it takes to protect his family when his partner Patrick Knight devises a plan that changes everything.

It’s a plan that involves coloring outside the lines and taking a walk on the dark side. It goes against everything on which Alexander-Knight, LLC, is based.

And it’s a plan Derek’s more than ready to follow.

My heart continues to reel over this story. While I love all couples within this series, I am a little biased when it comes to Melissa and Derek. Their love overcame so much and is so strong, intense, and passionate. And their love goes even deeper in One To Protect.

'Being with her is enough. She's home and comfort and warmth and all the good things I thought I'd never have again. She's my future and my desire and my love...'

One To Protect is told from both the POVs of Derek and Melissa. It continues their story where they are now settled into their life as a couple dealing with loving each other from a distance at times and other changes. Their lives continue to be threatened since Sloan is a free man. Derek knows that Sloan may come after Melissa as she is his obsession. However, Derek will do anything in his power to protect his  precious Melissa.

'His expression is a mixture of raw desire and pure appreciation. And love. Always love.'

Derek is THE ultimate protector. He is loving, passionate, and goes above and beyond when it comes to loving and protecting Melissa. Because of his past, he never thought he would love again. But with Melissa, it's different. She is the light in his life he thought he'd never see again. He doesn't believe he deserves her. He is fearful that he will lose her, so he does everything in his power to ensure her safety. What I love about Derek is that he is so genuine. While he is a protector and all alpha male everything, he completely bares his soul when it comes to Melissa.

    'You're my second chance.'

The mystery and suspense in this story keeps you completely engaged. I did not put this book down the minute I started it. I was captivated from the beginning to end. Derek is faced with choices and consequences, yet all he can see is Melissa and every decision made is done in her honor.

'When love is taken away, it creates a vacuum that has to be filled with new love. You were a gift I wasn't looking for, a gift I didn't deserve.'

I absolutely loved that we were able to see more of Melissa and Derek's story. These two love without boundaries. One To Protect is romantic, erotic, and suspenseful. You have no idea what will happen next and there are twists and turns in the story. I would not complain if there was more to their story. I would love to know what happens to them in the future as their lives go on.

This book was smoking hot with lots of sexy scenes.  You may want to take your kindle into the bedroom for this one.

I highly recommend that you pick up One To Hold before reading One to Protect.  I have read all the books in this series and have loved them immensely.  One to Protect picks up after One to Keep.  Melissa and Derek are living the happily ever after with a baby on the way when a dead call girl shows up that looks identical to Melissa.  Derek knows that Sloan is involved in her death and is out to prove it this time.  How far will he go to risk his own life and miss out on the wonderful life he has?

This book will have you on the edge of your seat.  Sloan is an evil bastard and he will stop at nothing to get back what belongs to him.  When Melissa starts hearing noises in her house at night I was literally spooked.  Then her necklace goes missing and I thought for sure that Sloan was going to kidnap her and drive Derek to an early grave.  Talk about evoking emotion.  I was seriously anxious to see what was going to happen and of course could not put the book down because if I tried to go to sleep I would be hearing things that go bump in the night.

Tia does a great job developing her characters and you see Melissa only get stronger.  I really enjoyed seeing Patrick and Lainey again and look forward to the next chapter in their story.

If you like alpha males and lots of scorching chemistry pick up Tia’s entire series.  You will be glad you did.

It’s Derek and Melissa once again. I fell in love with these two when I first read ONE TO HOLD. And now they’re back – much stronger, much sweeter and their future uncertain when Sloan Reynolds beats criminal charges and a freeman.

Their love and passion for each other hasn’t tamed. They may be an 8-hour drive apart, but the absence just makes the heart grow fonder, and the sex a little bit hotter.

The scar on her face is a constant reminder that once Sloan Reynolds had put her life in danger, and she will always be in danger as long as he is out of jail, and alive. So he uses all his resources to get the man who is set out to get his fiancée.

When a body of one of his former ‘regulars’ turned up dead – it was all Derek has been waiting for to finally put his plans into actions. But Sloan was sleek, he can just get away with anything using his money and connections. Derek was willing to do anything to protect his family, at whatever extent, but Patrick Knight strategized a plan that will surely bring Sloan to his knees. It may involve something illegal – something that their agency was not in favor of. But, what choice do they have, when everything Derek loved and lived for is at risk? His love for Melissa is unquestionable. He would do anything for her and the baby.

It’s good to see Patrick and Elaine, and just like the two, their love was also growing, but there might be some issues needing to be addressed ASAP.

The suspense was killing me – I held my breath for so long, waiting for what is going to happen, what are they going to do, and the consequences of their actions. The scenes were intense, and I’m not just talking about their sleuthing.

I loved every page of it – the rush of suspense, the steamy scenes, and the familiarity of old characters. It got me hooked from the first page down to the last, and I couldn’t wait for the next book in the series!

"Anything with the power to take you away from me scares me."

This is the first book that I have read from Tia even though

This is the first book that I have read from Tia even though this is book #3 in the One to Hold series, it can be read as a stand alone.

I think that book one was about Derek  and Melissa too, BUT as I said this book was read and loved as a stand alone.

Derek and Melissa have been through a lot together, her ex did some cruel and unthinkable things to her, things that he got away with. He is now walking around free, Derek doesn't like this and he will stop at nothing to see that this man pays for the crimes that he has done.

With all that Melissa has become to him, he is afraid of losing her to the things that haunt him the most, death. He sets out to destroy her ex Sloan, what will happen when he does the thing he never said he would do just to get the justice that both him and Melissa so much deserve? Can they have the HEA that they long for?

I really enjoyed this book, Melissa is sweet and loving and wants nothing more then to spend her life with Derek and forget everything that has ever happened to her before she met him. Derek is happy but he also wants to feel safe and when Sloan her ex is on the loose he doesn't. I love how protective he was of Melissa, but the thing I loved the most is that she let him be that way. I have read so many books where the woman freaks out because the man is being protective over her, and that is his instinct. I think it is built in them when the are born to protect what they love and cherish. But it seems everything I have been reading lately, wants the woman to be independent and gets angry if the man tries to protect. You can be independent and protected. This book shows that. She is a strong woman, but she loves when her man shows her love and protection. It was a sweet loving read. Thank you Tia. I am for sure going to go back and read the first two in this series. And I look forward to reading anything else that you release in the future.

    ¿A red-hot and intense page-turner!¿

    My rating: 4.5 of 5 ¿¿

Even though Melissa has found her new beginning with Derek, she is still plagued with nightmares of her abusive ex-husband. Rich and successful, the man has been able to slip out from under every criminal charge filed against him, leaving her feeling rather exposed. Especially since she doesn't just have herself to worry about anymore.

Being in the security business affords Derek Alexander a few more tools to keep tabs on his fiancee's violent ex. But the constant reminder of his inability to end the nightmares for his woman, once and for all, grates on his protective nature. He has done everything possible to keep the man behind bars, but he simply is too well connected.

When the body of a former call girl turns up, the discovery she is a tie back to some painful history, may be the breakthrough they have been waiting for. Derek will do everything in his powers to stop Melissa's ex, before he can ever get near her again. Even if it means breaking his own highly held moral code with the help of his partner in a walk on the dark side....

    *****

    Freaking holy hotness!!!

I ADORE Tia Louise!!! Truly I do. She writes fantastic juicy, fun, steaming hot love scenes, with tough manly men who can melt at the hands of their women.

Derek and Melissa are the couple from One To Hold, the first book in the series, and although this novel functions as a standalone, I feel it would be beneficial to read all the books in the series, simply to get a feel for the writing, the characters, and the back story. However, One To Protect is a complete story in itself, with a completion for Derek and Melissa.

One of the great things about Tia's stories is that although they have their happy ever afters, not all is rainbows and unicorns..... Not all issues resolve themselves magically by the end of each book, which is more true to life than the alternative. Practical conflicts and ongoing negotiations are evident with the relationship between Derek and Melissa as well, but they do not take away from the strong bond between them. And even at the end of this novel, there is the implication that things are as perfect as they can be ...... given the circumstances!! And that is an important distinction! One that Ms. Louise is not afraid to make, having her feet solidly planted on terra firma.

One To Protect held all the right components of an AWESOME read for me: Fabulous strong characters, both male and female; A great supporting cast, adding colour and depth to the storyline; Intrigue and suspence, providing a component of tension and action, and; A deep and solid romance, liberally enhanced with off the charts, sparking sexual chemistry.

    ¿A red-hot and intense page-turner!¿

The story has laughs, twists and turns, betrayal, ton of pleasure, and heartbreak.
I would recommend reading the below before reading this story
One to Hold (One to Hold, #1)
One to Keep (One to Hold, #2)

This is more of Melissa and Derek’s story. Even after Melissa left him heartbroken he is still trying to take down her ex-husband. When one of Sloan’s call girls turns up dead he is willing to do anything to protect Melissa even if she no longer wants him. When Patrick helps him come up with a plan he is unsure if it will work or if he is willing to involve the person he does not trust. When things don’t go the right way will he be able to protect Melissa from the very real threat? Or will Sloan win out in the end?

I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

    Good story

This novella is only a 128 page story. The book is 150 pages, 128 is story the rest filler. This is the 2nd 'book' in the series. I am tired of purchasing what I think are books for $3.99 and finding you need to put the 1st two short stories together to get a complete book.

I am just tired of finding many more authors are publishing novellas and calling them books.

There are still very good authors of ebooks who's books are over 200 pages.

If Tia Louise would have combined these 1st two books into one, I would have given the story 5 stars.

This is the third book in this series. It is a mix of both couples continuing stories. They are all trying to keep Melissa safe. Trying to come up with ways to get her ex out of the way. Patrick is dealing with past mistakes coming back to revisit him. Elaine is trying to deal with Patrick’s revisiting past. Both couples are growing closer together and falling deeper in love. Both their stories are amazingly romantic. Derek and Patrick and both Alpha males and will do anything to protect their women. The stories are emotional and powerful. I love all the books and can’t wait for more of the books to be released. More characters and being added to the stories. I can’t wait to read more about the newer characters. Tia is a great author. The books have been an amazing adventure so far.

Tia Louise is a first time author for me and I loved One To Protect. Derek is ready to protect Melissa no matter what the cost is. Melissa past continues to follow her as she desperately tries to move forward. Can Derek put an end to her fear?

I was impressed by the fluidity of the story, it was Dual PoV but it wrapped up. The emotion dripping from both main characters kept me engrossed and I quickly realized that I wasn't going to stop until I completed it. There is something for everyone: Romance, suspense, love, and erotic scenes. I look forward to reading more from Tia Louise.

An exciting wrap up for Melissa and Derek and all of the danger that is Sloan Reynolds.  Possibly a bit far-fetched?? But exciting.

Derek continues to be Alpha male extraordinaire-but seeing him the way he is with Melissa is beautiful.  He makes her feel safe and loved-exactly what she needs. And he is secure in their relationship-opening up about his past.  He also admits that the separation of them living apart more than together is too much for him.  Too difficult.  Compromises abound.  I love their story.

We also get a peek at Patrick and Elaine’s relationship- so in love.  And funny.  But I worry about Elaine’s insecurities.

Next book will be Kenny’s- here’s to her HEA!

One to Protect by Tia Louise is the thrilling conclusion to her

One to Protect by Tia Louise is the thrilling conclusion to her series One to Hold. Both the series and the book only get better the longer they go on. In this book the issues surrounding Elaine, Patrick, Melissa, and Derek are fully explored, boundaries are pushed, justice is delivered, and life continues in all its difficult glory.

Derek comes out of his characterization shell in One to Protect. His backstory, his character arc are impressive. Just when you think you know him, something else comes up. Even better, he shows a genuine-ness at the end that is very well done. No real arc is needed for Melissa but it is clear that she too is changing as the situation and her pregnancy progress. The depth and strength of the characterization are particularly good.

The hard issues this book confronts - prostitution, revenge, spousal abuse, murder - all handled with a great deal of both realism and sensitivity, never moving into the realm of schmaltz or schtick. With Melissa's ex-husband moving against her, Patrick and Derek are hard-pressed to protect her. But, we are talking about two men who have seen combat and as private investigators, see the darker side of humanity. They respond in the only way they can to protect and defend those they love. As the issues surrounding them get darker and harder, the story really takes off and the suspense is off the charts.

This is a hardcore romantic suspense story with an underlying darkness that is only tempered by the love the main players feel. This gives this book a much stronger plot than either of its predecessors and it shines through in dialogue and pacing as well. In the final showdown, can love win out over pain?

If you like romantic suspense, you will really like One to Protect. I highly recommend it!

*SPOILER* When I realized that there was going to be another part to Melissa and Derek, I was ecstatic. I enjoyed the read it was such a nice flow and writing was perfect . Not to even mention the love scenes. The only thing that I wish was a little better was the ending. I would have loved to see how it was when the baby was born or what happened after Patrick and Elaine went home. Ju doesn't end has a cliff hanger but in a way for myself it did. Granted we might now more in the next upcoming two books part of the series, but i would actually love another book of Melissa and Derek about their life after the birth of he baby and see if he ever told Melissa what he did. Over all it was an AMAZING read and I love this series.
