Overview

Here's a combination counting book and quiz game for toddlers, with humorous, full-color illustrations on every page, a rhyming text, and fold-over flaps that hide the answer to each question. "One, Two, What a to-do!" shout the Little Pigs. Kids have to guess the identity of the villain the pigs are locking out of their house. Is it Puss in Boots . . . the Big Bad Wolf . . . or The Beast? When they lift the flap they find the answer in rhyme, along with an amusing illustration that shows—in this case—the Big Bad Wolf! Two-page spreads that follow ask questions about Cinderella, the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood, and Jack and the Beanstalk. Preschoolers will want to play this game over and over again. (Ages 2-5)

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Counting, rhyming and fairy-taleswhat a great combination of elements to entrance any child. "The Three Little Pigs," "Cinderella," "Red Riding Hood," the "Three Bears" and "Jack and the Bean Stalk" are familiar even to very young readers/listeners. Every spread contains a multiple-choice question. Children will enjoy lifting the flaps to discover if their answers are correct. Numbers are repeated in numerical and word form in addition to being shown graphically in a display of objects. The rhyme is repeated at the end of the book along with numbers and objects for readers to count. Soft pastel drawings include details like Red Riding Hood's Grandmother's fluffy quilt, half-finished knitting and fuzzy pink slippers. At twelve pages, it is a pint-sized book for your half-pint bookworms. Add this one to your collection by the prolific Hawkins duo whose past successes include Whose House?. 2001, Barron's, $9.95.
