One Zentangle A Day is a beautiful interactive book teaching the principles of Zentangles as well as offering fun, related drawing exercises. Zentangles are a new trend in the drawing and paper arts world. The concept was started by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas as a way to practice focus and meditation through drawing, by using repetitive lines, marks, circles, and shapes. Each mark is called a "tangle," and you combine various tangles into patterns to create "tiles" or small square drawings. This step-by-step book is divided into 6 chapters, each with 7 daily exercises. Each exercise includes new tangles to draw in sketchbooks or on tiepolo (an Italian-made paper), teaches daily tile design, and offers tips on related art principles, and contains an inspirational "ZIA" (Zentangle Inspired Art) project on a tile that incorporates patterns, art principals, and new techniques.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

First of all, a definition: A Zentangle is a free-flowing way of drawing structured patterns that increase focus and creativity even as they form more beautiful designs. Perhaps the chief wonder of this new method is its multiplicity: Some view as a refreshing way to create art; others as a path to relaxation or even as a form of meditation. Whatever your approach, certified Zentangle teacher Beckah Krahula has crafted an interactive, step-by-step 6-week course to teach the basic patterns, principles, and techniques that fits your purpose. An inviting way to untangle your mind with tangles. A trade paperback original.

Ignore the one star ratings. These users were rating the issues with the digital verison, not the actual book, which kind of negates the purpose of the review section. I would highly recommend this book to new zentanglers. It's a great intro level book and I love how it is split into days. It keeps me from feeling overwhelmed like I do when I go to a website full of tangles to try.

As to the users complaining about the digital verison, contact B&N and/or Quarry Books directly.  Leaving 1 star reviews just makes it look like this is a terrible book. The people who could actually fix the issue aren't going to see your one star review. It's only going to deter potential buyers that look at star ratings without reading the reviews.

LIKE TRYING TO READ A PAPERBACK SOAKED IN MOLASSES!

Nothing is less ZEN than Page Perfect! Too bad, because I bet this is a really great book.

Even when this book opens, it never works properly. IF it loads completely, I can't view more than a few pages before it fails: pages stop turning, menu navigation freezes, the screen blanks (sometimes black, sometimes white), the reader stops responding- and usually more than one of these issues each time.

I STILL HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO VIEW EVERY PAGE!

I've never had problems reading other publications & PDFs on my Nook. I wish you could choose which Reader app it opens in. And yes, before purchasing I made sure my Nook was updated to version 1.4.3

    Won't work

This book does not work on my Nook Color. Opens up and then I have to force it to close with out seeing any pages. It is kind of frustrating. I was looking forward to spending a fun afternoon with this book. Don't waste any money on this until it is fixed

I love this book! It is very helpful as a new Zentangle artist, going step by step and introducing terms and tangles. She also shows you the possibilities with Zentangle Inspired Art, and gorgeous photos.
She did make an error concerning the paper that is used for official Zentangle tiles: the paper is a print making paper by Italian paper making company, Fabriano. the particular paper by Fabriano is called "Tiepolo". She states that is 240lb weight in her book, but Fabriano only comes in 140lb weight, a standard weight. You can save a lot of money by ordering the paper and cutting it into 3-1/2 inch square tiles with a large paper cutter. The paper can usually be found for less than $6 per sheet, and at 20X30 inch sheets, you can cut about 50 tiles. Official pre-cut tiles run you $29.00 for a set of 55.

I received this book a couple months back. I love Zentangle and tangle frequently.

Although some of the tangles in this book are also in other books the book is an excellent resource for reviewing shading, playing with color, many examples of more complex tangles. It is truly a six week Zentangle course (that could take longer if you choose).
Very thorough book and well worth purchasing!!

    Excellent book, horrible ebook

The contents of this book are great, but unfortunately I have to give it three stars because the ebook doesn't open most of the time. I haven't figured out what magic is required to make it open. Seems random.

    Love, love, love!

I had so much fun doing the exercises in this book. It was easy to follow along and create beautiful art pieces and calm moments at the same time. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in doodling. It will elevate your doodles and create a zen moment for you every time you make one of these little pieces of joy.

    Check it out!!

I have mostly paged through it, using some tangles that I saw. But, after reading the author's story in the intro about how she used Zentangling to recover from serious illness, I am more than inspired to start the 6 week adventure and to share it with others!

    Great way to practice Zentangles

I am just getting started on Zentangles and have not had a chance yet to be in a class with a certified teacher. This seems to me to be the next best thing. I can practice at my own speed and follow along with her instructions easily.

    Hightly recommended

Finally a book that has enough style in it that you can really take off on your own with zentangle. It really helped me get started.
