A Valued Reference for All Business Owners

Although Karen F. Viera targets real estate professionals in "Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers," she has really given all business owners an outstanding guide to the use of the internet in developing a robust business and an active and engaged clientele. In "Online Marketing Techniques," Ms. Viera very persuasively makes the case for the use of websites, blogging and other on-line vehicles as necessary elements for any marketing strategy and she presents those elements in a methodical, easy to read fashion that is never condescending to her readers. Indeed, relatively complex internet marketing techniques such as "search engine optimization" are explained in a way that will allow even the most technologically challenged reader to apply Ms. Viera's lessons to the everyday task of developing a business.

Although "Online Marketing Techniques" offers a comprehensive examination of most aspects of on-line marketing and the use of both the internet and more traditional media in the development of a brand and a business, there is one glaring omission that Ms. Viera should address in her first revision of the work. Specifically, Ms. Viera fails to adequately explore the marketing power of social networking websites. Admittedly, she does reference Facebook, MySpace and similar sites in passing, but those types of social networks, along with Twitter and the rest of the ever-expanding universe of social media sites, deserve at the very least their own chapter, if not an entire section of the work. It is simply not enough to mention that marketing requires the use of Facebook, MySpace and other such sites. Effective use should be fully explained.

Ms. Viera's treatment of social networking sites notwithstanding, "Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers" remains an excellent primer on the use of the internet and traditional media in the development of a cohesive marketing strategy - both for real estate professionals and for anyone who wants to develop their business to its fullest potential. The Internet is not going away any time soon, but businesses that fail to follow Ms. Viera's advice may very well find themselves unable to compete in the digital age.

Review of Dr. Karen Vieira's "Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers"

Jim Kimmons' forward to "Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers" was the perfect table setter for author Karen Vieira. The foreword bemoans buzz words and scams involved with online real estate marketing including "black hat" SEO. Kimmons is right to connect his focus on good sales technique in real estate with Vieira's "quick paced" and informational approach to online marketing.

Vieira's approach to online marketing for real estate professionals does not spare any detail. In Chapter Two "Creating Your Brand," the author spends time on the various messages sent by business card colors. Readers are treated to explanations of crawls, keywords and meta tags that are treaded on lightly by other authors. "Online Marketing Technique" does not assume the reader's prior knowledge of online marketing from the starter; rather, it helps build a knowledge base from chapter to chapter.

"Online Marketing Technique" is a fantastic investment for real estate professionals because of its staying power. The book offers checklists on developing a real estate brand, designing a website and creating online affiliates that will generate sales leads. Vieira challenges readers to create websites for each listing, use their personalities in professional blogs and head to eBay for real estate's hidden gems. This book does not unveil top secret information on marketing properties online; rather, Vieira blends traditional sales techniques with new technology in user-friendly language.

    The Basics of Internet Marketing

In each chapter of Online Marketing Techniques, Karen Vieira discusses a different aspect of an Internet marketing campaign, including blogging, building your web site, analyzing its search engine optimization, and hiring virtual assistants. She concludes the book with a concise summary of each chapter and the main takeaway points.<BR/><BR/>Real estate agents who understand web basics should have no problem grasping Vieira¿s subject matter. Useful for Anyone in Real Estate

This is a great novel on how to market yourself as a real estate agent or broker online. The author Karen Vieira runs through a myriad of topics that all focus on utilizing the internet¿s power to grow yourself as a real estate agent or broker. It opens by describing why an agent should utilize the internet, and the explanations confirm any doubts that a current agent may have about the internet¿s usefulness.<BR/><BR/>In a particularly useful chapter, Vieira discusses branding via the internet and how one¿s website and persona on the internet should be an extension and definition of their current brand. She goes into ways one can build this brand through a professional website. It describes things like catchphrases, statistics, and guarantees. These are all outlined; Vieira describes how each should be properly and effectively used.<BR/><BR/>Another very helpful topic that Vieira touches on is how to fully utilize search engines with your website. No one wants a website that does not appear in the top twenty relevant sites when its category is searched. Vieira enumerates ways to keep your website at the top of the heap. From things as simple as frequency of your site¿s text changes to major alterations on the site, Vieira details and educates how and when these changes should be made. I think that I found this information to be the most useful, but all throughout the book, Vieira provides strong, helpful insights which I have not seen in any other kind of internet marketing books. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to enhance their presence in the real estate industry or anyone just looking to create a web presence for their business.

A Good Run-Down on All of the Ins and Outs of Successful Internet Marketing

"Never judge a book by its cover." This old adage has never been more true than for Karen Vieira's new how-to book, Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers.<BR/><BR/>The book's cornflower blue cover and fluorescent title font misrepresent the work as something akin to a get-rich-quick scheme or a "Real Estate for Dummies" walkthrough. Admittedly, I was turned off by the look and also by the knowledge that Vieira isn't a broker nor an agent, herself. She graduated in microbiology and lists herself as an entrepreneur ¿ albeit one with a vested interest in flipping properties. The most outstanding qualification I could see to have her pen this book was that her husband is, according to the biographical information, an "Internet marketing guru."<BR/><BR/>My father is an independent real estate broker, so coming from a background of self-run businesses and real estate, I was understandably skeptical. In reality however, Vieira presents a compelling case. Her statistics about websites, sales, customer needs, wants, and ultimately how establishing a successful web presence will transfer to a more successful business are sound. She uses testimonials from successful agents around the country, and she has obviously done her research. The fact that she is not a broker or agent seems to help, rather than hinder. She is an outsider looking in, clear-headed in her criticism of the current market practices, and she makes fresh suggestions that have worked with her own business ventures and others. <BR/><BR/>The book is also easy to ingest, with clearly marked chapters and subsections that highlight each new topic. The end of each chapter holds a review of the most important material in case you missed it. Another helpful point is that she doesn't ignore the real estate agent or broker who would like to get their hands dirty and design their web presence from the ground up, instead of hiring outside help. Though she cautions against overloading oneself and offers a myriad of tips for finding web professionals, Vieira also gives all the tools and know-how needed to create and maintain successful real estate blog oneself. She explains how to optimize your html code, online advertising and search engine results, and she does so with succinctness. <BR/><BR/>I left the book impressed and intrigued. From branding to selling houses with eBay to hiring cheaper website help overseas, Vieira leaves no stone unturned when it comes to defining oneself in an increasingly online world. Though it runs a little long at 274 pages, Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers is a comprehensive, well-written book that will be certain to teach a few tricks to even the savviest salespeople, and with a handy index, it makes a nice reference tool to keep on the shelf, as well.
